Yet another new director! I can’t lie I’m nervous/anxious however I am excited so its a mix of it all! Part of me is worried I guess that a big reset button is on its way again, but we shall see!
I am so hyped for this! I am usually not that much of a fan of finales of any era, but this feels new and different, and it also feels like it plays to RTD’s strengths as a writer. I think that we are in for one of the best finales of modern Who!!!
It’s times like this when I think back to some of the previous season finales we’ve had. Like The Horns of Nimon. Or Twin Dilemma. Time-Flight. The Invasion of Time…
Honestly, do we really need a season arc and finales? Seems to me like people might enjoy things better if we weren’t building up to something.
I’m a little anxious about this. I love the Rani and for some reason I get the feeling that RTD won’t do her justice. I hope I’m proven wrong and that this finale blows me away, but my expectations are extremely low.
This is directed more generally but replying to you as you’ve used the phrase.
Why does the finale need to ‘blow us away’? Can’t it just be a well-told story? Isn’t that enough nowadays. And I mean this in terms of RTD too - all his ‘most epic ever!’ promotional schtick is just as unnecessary. People are inevitably just going to be disappointed if you keep talking like that, Russ.
I’m just excited to have new Doctor Who and as long as the ride is fun and thrilling and ties up some of threads, I definitely don’t need to be blown away!
I’m actually somewhat excited for tomorrow, because I love stories thatt deal with alternate universes and different variations/personality of the same person under different circumstances. I watched Sliders growing up, and I love Rose Tyler: The Dimension Cannon; I’m nothing if not predictable.
I mean it more in the sense that I want it to blow me away in comparison to other episodes of this era; i.e. notmake me groan the whole time about RTD’s writing. I do just want a good story. Small scale stories can blow me away just as much if not more than grandiose, end-of-the-world tales.
Yeah, I agree, I have high hopes for the final, but I think this constant chase for higher stakes is a bit draining. You can tell an excellent story without having to make the story about saving the universe or doing the massive, lore shattering thing! A good example is The Doctor Falls, compared to a lot of other finals, it’s relatively low stakes, it’s not about saving the universe, it’s about saving this small village, and it’s imo one of the best finals of the show.
