Literally laughable whenever I see this brought up because it’s true. Such a stupid decision :sob:

As someone who was absolutely dreading this episode…

I loved it so much!

It was great fun, and I loved every little twist!

Oh, there’s so much for me to enthuse about here!

Plus, the fact that most of the clips in the previous Doctors flashback were from the Jodie era :star_struck:

What if Omega is also written like The Master…

It did strike me that Mrs Flood called the Rani ā€œthe mistressā€ā€¦

See, this is what I’m worried about for the second part. Omega is one of my favourite villains but it’s all to do with the precision of the characterisation. The tragic backstory, the will to survive that sustained him even in what is now being called the ā€˜Underverse’, how his psychology interacts and mingles with that of the Doctor. After the missteps with the Rani here, I’m hyped… and also a bit worried.

I’m with you Mahan as a fellow Omega fan. Here’s hoping he’s utilised well and correctly! [1]

Also did anybody else find it kinda funny that the camp scene was like very very very similar to Curse of Clyde Langer’s or is that just me

This episode did feel a little bit like Russell trying to write Moffat to me.

Stick 10p on Mrs Flood turning against Mrs Rani next week, by the way. Might as well dangle a giant neon sign over her head while she’s making everyone a bacon butty.

Didn’t think of it at the time, but now that you mention it…

This is RTD2 in a nutshell to me lol

Way too much going on, reality has been rewritten, iconic villains brought back just because?

Yeah, I was reminded of that too.

The way she actually was calling the police. My mind!

Also (and I haven’t seen any Rani stories so I don’t know if this is how she is characterised in Classic) the Rani seemed rather similar to Missy for me.

As someone who has seen a single Rani episode, I agree

Yeah and it annoys me soooo much lol

I agree, she did, and she’s not supposed to. I think it improved with her last few lines, actually, but the Rani’s thing is she likes to do science, and doesn’t care who gets hurt in the process, but she’s not actually out to manipulate people like the Master.

She’s like if GLaDOS were a time lord.

And fwiw, The Mark of the Rani is one of my favorites in Classic Who. Time and the Rani… well. We’ll always have The Mark of the Rani.

In fairness, that kinda is how the Rani was characterised in the classic era: The Master, but a woman. They tried to emphasise her as more of a mad scientist, but she just couldn’t get out from under his shadow. She wasn’t going to return while Missy was still around because she’d be surplus to requirements (at least in my view).

It doesn’t help that the two stories she was in (not counting Dimensions In ADHD) aren’t that great (imo), so this being a possible tactic to get NuWho viewers to check out the classic era is… iffy. Y’know, like having a major villain return whose only previous appearance involves the show’s only use of the N-word.
