See, this is what Iām worried about for the second part. Omega is one of my favourite villains but itās all to do with the precision of the characterisation. The tragic backstory, the will to survive that sustained him even in what is now being called the āUnderverseā, how his psychology interacts and mingles with that of the Doctor. After the missteps with the Rani here, Iām hypedā¦ and also a bit worried.

Also (and I havenāt seen any Rani stories so I donāt know if this is how she is characterised in Classic) the Rani seemed rather similar to Missy for me.

I agree, she did, and sheās not supposed to. I think it improved with her last few lines, actually, but the Raniās thing is she likes to do science, and doesnāt care who gets hurt in the process, but sheās not actually out to manipulate people like the Master.
Sheās like if GLaDOS were a time lord.
And fwiw, The Mark of the Rani is one of my favorites in Classic Who. Time and the Raniā¦ well. Weāll always have The Mark of the Rani.

In fairness, that kinda is how the Rani was characterised in the classic era: The Master, but a woman. They tried to emphasise her as more of a mad scientist, but she just couldnāt get out from under his shadow. She wasnāt going to return while Missy was still around because sheād be surplus to requirements (at least in my view).
It doesnāt help that the two stories she was in (not counting Dimensions In ADHD) arenāt that great (imo), so this being a possible tactic to get NuWho viewers to check out the classic era isā¦ iffy. Yāknow, like having a major villain return whose only previous appearance involves the showās only use of the N-word.
