Episode Discussion: The Robot Revolution

Agreed! I don’t understand the complaints about him crying. There’s now finally a fictional character that cries as much as I do!

There are a lot of heroes that don’t cry that people can watch if they don’t like it.

Lots in there I agree with. I dipped out of various forums and fan discourse because I was starting to feel like the odd one out. Everyone seemed to be in awe of modern Who whereas I was bewildered or confused as to what people were seeing in it.

I’m glad there’s a broad forum of opinions on here and everyone is welcoming of all opinions, and I appreciate you being blunt and honest in your review.

I’m glad there are still lots of people getting excitement out of new Doctor Who. I wish I were too!

My only issue with the scene is I wish I got more time to get attached to Sasha, I think singlet dude could have probably been replaced with Sasha as I felt he didn’t really add much except for creating artificial hostility which imo didn’t need to exist. I enjoyed Sasha but I wanted more.

Also “Take me to see the stars, Doctor” has got to be one of the most death flaggy death flags I’ve ever seen :joy:

I don’t even see the point of reading a review of something I know I’m definitely watching in a few days. It’s just going to colour your opinion ahead of time.

I only read reviews if I am unsure whether I should watch something or after I have seen it.

Enjoyed that overall. Lots to like. A tiny couple of niggles but a solid 3.5/5. Belinda is instantly brilliant - what am I, six?

Sometimes you go to Doctor Who for the biting social commentary, the thrills, the horror, the out there sci-fi concepts, the depth to every interaction, how it’s building on 60 years of lore.

Sometimes you go to Doctor Who to sit down in front of the telly, throw on an episode, and just have some fun.

The Robot Revolution definitely doesn’t do the former of those, but it doesn’t need to, it’s all in on the latter and it works. Is this the best Doctor Who story I’ve ever watched? No. Is it one that I can absolutely see coming back to, throwing it on when I just want some fun? YES.

A brilliantly fun story that does exactly what I think Doctor Who needed to, backed up by brilliant effects (cosmetic, practical, and CG), a wild premise that’s fun from start to end, some spectacular acting, and a cliffhanger that almost has me sad we’re not getting a 2 episode premier again.

I suspected I would like her going into S2, but I was not prepared for how much I would love her, she absolutely nailed it. Listen to me RTD, GIVE HER A SECOND SEASON!

I had a really fun time with it. Definitely agree with some of the other people’s complaints where it felt pretty surface level and expositiony, but overall I enjoyed it. Really like Belinda, can’t wait to see more of her. I always love when a companion’s initial reaction is “Get me out of here???.” Also I thought the planet was real cool. Plus it’s just good seeing Ncuti again.

Intrigued by the ending, excited to see where the season goes!

Polish-Bot was the best character btw.

I was a bit sceptical about her. I was not that big of a fan of her role in Boom. But I am so happy that I was wrong. She is amazing!!!

I finally watched it! An excellent start to this season, I love Belinda and her dynamic with the doctor. Some things seemed a little out of place to me, but nothing too disturbing. :star::star::star::star:
