I agree that Belinda’s arc feels a bit weird and that she did not get the time to grow. I have actually started to think back to the rumours before the last season that Millie was hard to work with and that influenced her departure. I think the companion’s role in this season makes more sense for a returning companion than a new one. Don’t get me wrong, I think that Millie is an amazing actor and I really like Ruby. It is Belinda’s arc that feels a bit weird.
(I edited a part of my post because re-reading it, it looked like I was saying something backwards. I also edited your quote of my post there. Sorry, I was sleepy when I posted it lol)
What I meant to say was: I think Ncuti left because there was no renewal in sight, and the blame for that lies with Disney ultimately.
I want an extended episode of Unleashed if this happens. I just want Billie and Carol to talk about life for 2 or 3 hours!
It would. And I’d be very happy with that (if done well).
I think they will still use Susan in S3, I just hope Carole is still healthy enough to do it by then! She is an elderly lady, I’m so worried about that.
Yeah, that’s what I don’t like about it. Rose is a major character. She’s done a lot of stuff so it’s much harder to justify. I’m tired of her and between this and the 14th [1] it feels like the show is relying on nostalgia which isn’t a great way to go about things
I’m fine with the 14th Doctor but I’m just pointing it out ↩︎
I am inclined to agree.
We’re running out of time. She turns 85 this year. She’ll be down under if they don’t hurry up!
That sounds like an Unleashed that I would actually watch
I really agree with this. It is so strange because movie studios are trying to turn their movies into TV shows (like the MCU), and TV shows are trying to turn their shows into movies. This is hurting both industries a lot…
Maybe she will just be on a TV screen ala Hartnell in the Three Doctors
But I think she looks like a very healthy 85 year old!
I’m so jealous of folks who still have hope for a Susan return. After two years of being teased leading to nothing, I’ve lost said hope
If you saw the interview on Unleashed it’s even worse - Carole was so happy to be invited back. For… that?
Makes me think of this video:
Now I don’t mind bringing things back that much, especially in Doctor Who where there’s plenty of characters and especially villains that have only appeared once or twice and who have potential for return. So, even if I’m just going off of what I have read, having Mel, Susan, Sutekh etc. come back isn’t inherently a bad idea in my opinion. But there shouldn’t be too much of it and you need to actually make something of it that isn’t just “hey look remember this?”
Billie could be good as a Doctor character but I do not think RTD would be the best fit if they went that route though. I do believe it is going to be some connection to the Bad Wolf story and hope its not too bad. Also think it could get tide into the spinoff somehow. Jodie was great to see her come back shame we could not have got a two Doctor Story with Jodie and Ncuti. Ncuti will be missed second series he was really filling in the roll and seeing him blossom into the Doctor. Shame on shorter series and not enough time to give us better backstory.
Yep! And everyone got excited cause she was in a different fit that looked like a costume and uh…
Urgh. I’m remembering how when 15 woke up on the grass to an out of focus garden I thought “is this it? Is she here?” And then…
As I said a couple days ago, I think if she doesn’t appear next series whenever that is then it’s time for me to finally take a break from the show itself and focus on classic, backlog and EU because while we aren’t at my line yet, we are so close.
I was screaming for a Susan visit and was so disappointed. I remember Ncuti on the grass also and thought the same. So many missed chances but guess he thinks we don’t need it.
She will be 85 next month. But in interviews she seems so vibrant & full of life.
I think this may be the modern era’s biggest minus point. This was never an issue in the classic series because each story was standalone. It doesn’t matter that The Invasion of Time is a bit rubbish or that Season 21 ends with The Twin Dilemma. It doesn’t affect how good or bad The Sunmakers or The Caves of Androzani is.
But I think Doctor Who can still avoid it because we can still have Lux, The Well and The Story & the Engine even if The Reality War drops the ball. I really don’t see how it can retroactively ruin those stories when they have almost nothing to do with the finale.
This is an interesting take that I want to disagree with…
I want to disagree with it but I can’t shake the feeling there’s a grain of truth there…
How sad.
