Episode Discussion: The Reality War

There is so much good about this episode. One bit that really stood out to me was when Poppy initially faded away. Genuine chills. I like how Ruby’s thing now cause of 73 Yards is that she can sense when reality is messed up, it’s made for some really interesting moments thus far.

more evidence to add to the ā€˜conrad is probably also racist’ pile? (aside from just vibes, and him being a conspiracy theorist, and his fantasy world being literally the 1950s)

I agree this was a very good scene. There were quite a few small good moments. I just wish it added up better

Conrad’s worst sin is being a podcaster though. Glad he’s been freed of that hell.

Yeah, that annoyed me. They brought Carole on just for a couple pointless cameos.

I cant lie I did like the epsiode. It was good. By no means perfect. I think it ran on too long at the end. But Billie Piper??! I’m shocked and excited if you told me prior to the epsiode Id have thoughtit was dreadful. But she looks so right for the role now.

So beyond disappointed in this episode - just so so much to say, which I have covered in my review. Really, a huge mess wasting its villains, set up and potential. And the last 20 minutes…

More detail in my review which I’ll share, containing spoilers, that I wont discuss here in case there’s someone who hasn’t watched yet (not sure why they’ll be reading here, but just in case)

My brain is still boggled by the episode. It felt like two vastly stories shoved into one. Why mention Omega is he’s just going to languish across the screen for a few moments and die while taking Panjabi’s Rani with him? It was such an utter waste. I was prepared for another Empire of Death but this just completely butchered the elements it took from Classic Who. And don’t get me started on the whole Poppy thing, I was rolling my eyes at the whole Doctor’s child concept but to instead retcon Belinda’s storyline to accommodate her in a frankly lazy and misogynistic move really disappointed me. Thirteen showing up again kind of was the highlight of this story for me, which says a lot about all the other aspects. And as for Ncuti’s regeneration, I’m sad to see him go after such a short tenure but I can understand it from a logistic point of view. Now, regenerating into Billie Piper has me split. I really am pleased to see her again but that excitement is undermined by RTD’s obvious desperation. If he hadn’t been continuously coming back to all his old hits, I’d be more optimistic on her presence. But echoing what others have said, it really seems like RTD is lacking the faith in the show that would give us new and inventive storylines. I hate to be so overtly negative but this episode has just spurred a lot of opinions from me.

Someone said on youtube that RTD could make Billie Piper’s Doctor meet 14… :sob: (just their theory)
