Episode Discussion: The Reality War

Yeah, and this is true and something that I think has hindered many good stories during a long time. All three showrunners has from time to time focused to much on past and future lore and forgotten to make a good story in the present.

I think this is a reason why none of them really want to set stories on Gallifrey. It is just too much lore to handle.

Dying at how this video described 15’s final scene with Ruby: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLP6lEpiRTg

ā€œā€¦we’ve never even seen them disagree, so this is the first time he’s like this with her, and then he goes off and diesā€

Not even gonna lie the 13 and Yaz edits I’m seeing on Tik Tok right now are delivering more than this finale😭

Please share…? (maybe not in this thread though!)

There’s something in the fact that they could have quite easily been linked to the Corporation (or whatever ambiguous name they gave it) in Interstellar Song Contest if RTD did want to have them keep cropping up.

I’ve waited some time to post in this thread because I needed to recover from the abysmal emotional state I was left with after 15 regenerated into Billie Piper.

But.

Except that, and being well aware of the amount of problems this episode has, I’ve got to say I loved it. I wanted RTD to get rid of Omega as soon as posible because I wanted to see more of the Rani on her own, he ended up getting rid of both at the same time, but the Rani’s plan exploding back at her face and her narrowly escaping is the most Rani thing ever.

Also, this episode had 15 on his ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  prime. It was brilliant, and a perfect example of why I love this incarnation of the Doctor so much. The scene with 13 had me bawling, the scene with Poppy and Belinda at the end saying goodbye had me bawling, the regeneration had me bawling and as you could’ve guess the reveal of Billie Piper had me rolling on the floor screaming in undescribable pain because my sweet boy got turned into yet another one of RTD nepo babies.

I know I might be alone in this, but despite all of it’s problems, I genuinely loved the episode, I cried for a good 46 minutes of the whole thing knowing this was 15 swan song, and although it was far from perfect it was adecuate enough for me to thoroughly enjoy it.

4/5

(Despite the good grade, I still want RTD to be fired and hunted down like a wild animal for his multiple crimes)

And just where ARE we putting the emphasis on that name these days? Between Omeega and VilLENgard, maybe it’s good that Ncuti didn’t meet the Dayleks? (A true joke lol, I would give anything for a killer Ncuti Dalek story)

This would have been SUCH a cool little addition. It’s perfect quick satire for our current times to have space Eurovision ā€œbrought to you by The Villengard Corporation,ā€ that’s a lovely pitch.

I’ve been assuming/hoping he actually said Petrel, like the bird

RTD trying to figure out how to write Ncuti out:

Am I the only person who is just unfathomably excited about Billie Piper as the Doctor? I haven’t been this pumped for a new Doctor since… well… Ncuti.

WHEN are we getting a 16th Doctor thread? Once we get an official announcement? I cannot contain myself.

If she is the next Doctor despite issues with the casting choice, she will NAIL this. I highly recommend everyone watches I Hate Suzie, fantastic show and she was phenomenal.

I’m completely with you! Will be very annoyed if it’s a fakeout (but if the show doesn’t come back then it’s in our hands! She’s Sixteen whether RTD likes it or not!).

I’m back with a Fact that has to be at least vaguely relevant; I’m watching Day of the Daleks and the episode 3 cliffhanger is also the scene they used when Anita popped her head in on the Third Doctor and he’s strapped to the Mind Analysis Machine! What a weird coincidence, I thought.

This is also an episode where The Doctor blasts a slightly awkward monster with a gun. We really do chase our own tails, don’t we.

I thought of something else which just shows RTD lack of vision for the show. So remeber when there was all this controversy about why 14’s clothes regenerated too. RTD said he didn’t want to see the doctor in a dress. But then part of this finale is The Doctor wearing a dress to snap the conserative wish world out of it, so based on his own rules he set up, RTD would be in the conserative world which is funny and sad at the same time.

I will never forget that RTD not only revived Doctor Who but also laid the foundation for its enormous success afterward. Could others—especially Moffat—have done the same? Probably, but not necessarily. Being the showrunner of a previously dead show (at least in its TV incarnation) is different from, say, writing genius timey-wimey time-paradox stories. Some things only work when there’s already a foundation.

Of course, it was a team effort. Back then, he worked with the right people to deliver, more often than not, brilliant TV. But I assume that assembling the right team was part of his job—so, once again, kudos to RTD.

Looking at The Reality War and the lead-up to it, I just don’t quite understand what happened. Did he change? Was it Disney? (Or, of course, is it possible that I changed? But I still enjoy RTD1’s work.)

I’ll be curious to learn more as the years go by and we get more and more leaks.
