Something that I did like about this episode, which I don’t think we have talked about yet, is that the TARDIS did not translate any of the songs. My reading of this is that music is a language that is universal. It also helped to create the Eurovision vibe.

Yes, I would agree. Largely, I find mysrlf in broad agreement with the outlook of the series anyway. It’s a really difficult line to tread and one that, for the most part, I genuinely believe is done well.

Whilst I don’t fully agree with some of the negativity surrounding this episode, I do see where these feelings come from and many of the arguments are well articulated. Personally, I think that it should not be overestimated how fortunate we are to have a family show watched by a huge number of young children (some of them very young) that dares to tackle such serious issues. It can only go so far and, of course, reinforces the idea that killing is wrong. Nevertheless, the show consistently presents a far more positive message to children than many. When the Doctor succumbs to base instinct and rage, he is shown to be in the wrong (as was Kate, two episodes ago).

His actions against Kid are indefensible, yet consistent. Consider how his heart hardens against the Chuldur (Rogue) when he believes they have killed Ruby. Though he cites the murder of three trillion as the catalyst of the ice in his hearts here, I think it’s subconsciously his anger at what has happened to Belinda. At that stage, he still doesn’t know, for sure, that she’s safe.

I played this for my mother in the car and gave her the context of the scene (she only caught the final scene), and her response was: ā€œIf that’s the best that planet can do, they should’ve been invaded a long time ago.ā€
Also, this is Murray Gold’s best work in the RTD2 era /hj

It’s also like, we have to remember that the Doctor also is a genocide survivor. I think this episode is trying to show - if clumsily - the blind rage of him getting swept up in trying to stop that happen again. He has that hurt too, and he wants to prevent it at all costs. Perhpas there’s an element of self-flagellation too, because of course Gallifrey’s destruction is a complex event

That’s probably the Word I would describe the Episode the most. I do think it’s all most likely well intended but clumsily done. I do think even just changing up Berlindas Reaction afterward to his Actions would have helped this Story massively, but that’s just me on that Matter

I know some folks have said they think otherwise but I legit just think a couple more drafts and more consultations could have helped with the political issues. I’m with the folks immediately above that the episode was well intentioned but clumsy. Just a few scene changes and new scenes I think could have tightened it up and made the message less muddy

This is something I’ve meant to say before now that I haven’t seen people complaining about his actions acknowledge. He is absolutely still worried about what has happened to Belinda. Yes, she’s not dead but as far as he’s aware she could still die because of Kid’s actions.

Help, I’ve developed a ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  Dugga Doo dependency, each time I pause the song I feel the urge to hit play again and let it consume every bit of sanity I have left. This fluffy bastard has taken my mind hostage, and will not cease it’s demonic chantings.

I’m starting to feel like this is some sort of punishment from Murray Gold for repeatedly asking him to release the Series 10 soundtrack, I’m sorry Mr Gold please make it stop. I don’t know how much I can handle before I completely loose my mind.

Can’t wait for that third villain RTD’s been teasing to be Dugga-Doo: psychovore who plagues the universe with his sick beats.
