Yeah but that’s just Thirteen’s character isn’t it?
Also, I feel like the scene with the fans deserves something like an episode worth of cut content showing up online or on the dvd or such…
I’m catching up on where I stopped reading the thread last night; sorry for my wall of text!
Also, I apologise in advance if I end up replying to something that has already been replied to by someone else. I’m not a time traveller, so I don’t know what’s coming up further down the thread.
So, Boom/The Well?
- The Doctor stands still for 40 minutes
- The companion almost dies
- The main guest actor returns as the companion next season
- Villengard is involved
But it is new and groundbreaking - for Belinda and for the viewers who haven’t watched the show before.
This is what I said about TRR as well, and I think it still applies to Lux. This creative team has kicked into high gear, which is why I expect this season to be a banger overall. I find Space Babies to be fine and liked TDC more than most, but Lux is definitely better than TDC.
I have a feeling this is something exclusive to the current arc with Mrs Flood etc. I’m pretty sure the gods and fourth wall breaks will seize once that’s been wrapped up.
Bring back the Doctor Who Podcast, but with these three fans commenting on the episodes!
Oh, and thinking about this episode a bit more, I’ve realised a couple of more things: I enjoyed Mr Pye and his motivations, but he could have been given a couple of extra scenes. Also, I would have loved to see the setting explored more, though there wouldn’t have been time for the film reel stuff then (this should’ve been a two-parter!). And Lux used similar powers as Maestro to ensnare the Doctor, which was a nice callback, but other than that, ye actually didn’t do all that much. But he was still very effective and creepy.
I believed that. So this is another proof that Danes lack humour and imagination
We have “Doctor sacrifices themself” and “Companion sacrifices themself” as tropes in the Guide. Should we have “supporting character sacrifices themself” as well?
Well, there we have it!
We are also missing loads of tropes. I can’t think of any now, but I frequently think something is missing when I’m adding tropes to stories.
But yeah, some are a bit unclear. “Cold Open”, for instance, should technically apply to almost every single New Who episode, but I don’t think it’s been added to them.
Also, one challenge is always remembering to add the trope as well as keeping track of which tropes we have. There’s no easy way to do it, so unless I directly remember that something is a trope that we have on the Guide, I just scroll through the list in order and add any trope I think fits the story.
“My favourite episode? All 26 episodes of K9! Pure gold, those. If shot was made out of gold, that is”
I just deleted that trope, before I read your comment, cos yeah it’s too common.
Well I’ve got news for you!
Oh, I don’t agree at all. I thought that the pacing was really good and making it a two-parter would have ruined that. I thought that this was the best-paced episode in years, and it showed that the 45-minute format can work in 2025.
Imagine if 15 and Belinda had climbed out of the TV and found themselves in the living room in Remembrance of the Daleks. Meta gone meta.
Either you work very quickly or I wrote that comment for a very long time!
My laptop is 30 mins in the future. I start developing your requests before you ask for them. It saves time.
Shame one of the fans didn’t say to 15, “I’m excited for the upcoming spin-off!”
Honestly, they should have, for advertising purposes.
It’s still going…
Is it? Where?
He meant the official one. It’s stopped.
“So what is your favorite Adventure of mine?” “Then one where you get shoot in America, die and then kiss the Woman who technically ‘killed’ you!”
Sorry had to
Oh, I didn’t know that!
Part of me wishes we had the Toymaker in for the discussion of favorite episodes and such…
I’ve looked at some zoomed-in screeenshots of the fans’ bookshelf, and I don’t see any SJA DVDs; that’s foreshadowing that they’re not real fans! /j
Personally, I can’t really read the titles…
Though the dvds on the bottom row are obvious. Am kinda wondering about that “FINETIME” poster in the background…
I can’t see any Thirteen content on those shelves…
