Might very well explain why she decided to go off with Sabalom Glitz…
Hmm does that make Mrs Flood the love child of Sabalom Glitz and the Rani
Maybe?
The one in The Day of the Doctor was perfect and enough for me thanks
Love 2 hiding behind 3 there
It would have been fun to mention Bad Wolf. To retroactively give it another layer of meaning.
I’m guessing the title will be a reference to the new companions name?
hey, don’t slag off return of doctor mysterio, its one of my favourites
Great that you enjoy it. I really don’t
What, the “I think I prefer you in your superhero costume” and then proceeds to put the glasses on him didn’t tug on your heartstrings?
Because if that is the case then I am right there with you
Well, it could be a reference to Three Dog Night’s “Joy to the World”, so dog’s instead of wolves, but…
Felt like they could’ve done much more with the memory tardis.
Bring back every companion that featured in TOTT and it would be really cool to
see the other doctors back for a finale. A bunch of doctors with their companions plotting how to beat sutekh would be hella dope.
tbh I couldn’t imagine anything worse, had enough of nostalgia. & wasn’t this season, season 1, supossed to be a jumping on point for new viewers? Jumping OFF point more like lol
Actually what happened was they built the Memory TARDIS set for this episode, and then instead of just dismantling it they decided to create the Tales of the TARDIS episodes.
They were just released first because there wasn’t any CGI to do or anything, and for it to be with the anniversary.
Russell said this on the in-vision commentary. That’s also why there was no Tom Baker episode - they saved that for here.
I always love classic Doctors and companions coming back but I agree it would have been a bit alienating for new viewers really. So best save that for anniversaries.
As for it being a jumping on point? I don’t think a little bit of nostalgia is bad. The show’s biggest strength is it’s history and they want to keep the connection and bring new people into the old series too. I like it.
Maybe, but we basically have a sequel to a story from almost 50 years ago that isn’t easily accessible to people not in the UK. I think it might have worked better in s2. I wasn’t a fan of the Maestro but they might have made for a better s1 final boss.
But is PoM that important to this story? I feel people underestimate new viewers. I don’t see this as a bigger deal than Dalek in s01 or the Master in s03.
I’ll say that I’ve not yet heard any new viewers or people who have only watched NuWho complain about not understanding the finale without Pyramids of Mars. Everything you truly need to know is in Empire of Death, and it does a good job of selling Sutekh as a serious threat even without the full context. I haven’t watched PoM yet and loved the finale, and my wife had never heard of it and loved it.
I think this season is a fine jumping on point. I would still recommend someone start with Rose, but if they want to see the newest episodes without having over 13 seasons of backlog to get through or just happen to discover the show on Disney+, Church on Ruby Road is a fine clean slate jumping on point just like The Eleventh Hour or The Woman Who Fell to Earth.
