I would never have guessed that The Parting of the Ways would have won!
I’m not being funny but when The Caves of Androzani loses any sort of competition there is something clearly very wrong with the universe. Someone call the Doctor - we’re obviously in the wrong timeline!!!
Ah, but how gratifying to see that the contest was so close between three all-time greats. I think it is fair to say a hearty congratulations to all three podium finishes:
BRONZE: The War Games
SILVER: The Caves of Androzani
GOLD: The Parting of the Ways
Surely, by anyone’s standard, those are three worthy stories. Also, how wonderful to see that quality spanning through across decades.
Truth be told, I’d be happy to see those three at the top in any order.
Joyous.
Big thank you to everyone who participated! It was a lot of fun and I am happy to see my #2 choice win! Parting of the Ways is a wonderful finale and heartfelt regeneration. A truly worthy winner!
Sorry to throw a spanner in the works of your statement here, but I for one have a different standard there
The Parting of the Ways is the best RTD finale for sure, but I don’t think it is even close to being in the same league as the War Games or Androzani are.
I respect your opinion and…
…of course…
…I respectfully disagree!
I would agree here. The fact that Parting won means that some of you have very bad taste and as punishment, you will be forced to watch The Web Planet at half the speed 100 times in succession while sitting in a completely soundproofed room with no contact with the outside world!
Really happy Parting of the Ways won! It’s a wonderfully dark, melancholy yet hopeful story. All the top 3 are classic and great stories though so any ot them winning would have been fantastic.
But… but I love The Web Planet too
There is no shame in enjoying The Web Planet. Well, not too much shame
There are so many here who like the story, I should find another torture device…
How about Heaven Sent - but it’s on a permanent loop and the last scene of the Doctor breaking the wall and emerging from the dial is cut out completely…
That’s pure evil!
Mwahahahahaha
Did not expect The Parting of the Ways to win, though I’m very happy it did, it was my first choice. A macabre, bombastic and nihilistic space opera that is never really touched by another series finale in terms of bleakness. I’ll save my major thoughts on it for the TV club but yeah, I’m glad it won (though I do adore both the War Games and - I think - Caves, though I can’t really remember it.)
Today I learned what The Parting of the Ways is. Curiouser and curiouser.
