Eleventh Doctor Appreciation and Discussion Topic

We have a couple of these topics, but we’re sadly missing one for an often maligned Doctor - Mr Eleventh!

I adore adore adore series 5, 6, and 7 so much and I remember back in the day how vicious people were over it. Fortunately, public opinion seems to have softened over the years, but I loved Matt Smith from day one and still do.

I also adoreee Amy Pond. You often see people writing her off as a so-called ‘Moffat Woman’ with no personality, but that could NOT be further from the truth. I very much identified with her when I was younger, as I could recognise her unstable mental health in myself. The fact is, she is so scared of being left alone and abandoned, and it is the Doctor’s fault. She’s a perpetual outsider, even to her own life. Only Rory can really anchor her, and even then part of their tragedy is that she pushes him away when her brain gets bad.

Who else loves Amy? Or Eleven? Let’s hear some appreciation!!

Eleven got me hooked on Who before I started watching.

Long story, but I’ll always have a fondness for that era. It holds a special place in my heart.

I did not know until recently that 11 was not as much loved as I thought he was. I love season five but also his other seasons.

And as you say Amy is one of my absolute favourite companions she is bad ass and kind at the same time.

My Doctor! Literally changed my life. Matt Smith is phenomenal in the role. The man is made of charisma.

The Eleventh Doctor was one of the first three Doctors that I watched growing up (I legitimately do not remember what my first episode was, just that it had Nine, Ten, or Eleven), and he remains my second favorite to this day (he was briefly my favorite Doctor but that was when I had a crush on Karen Gillan and liked that his character interacted with hers). I watched all but one of his episodes growing up, and I was excited to watch them all! I love the balance of whinsy in the earlier seasons, but him becoming more jaded but still slowly becoming more entranced with the universe later on. Series 5 has probably the best series-long arc. I adore Amy! She remains one of my favorite companions to this day, and her fear of being left alone/abandoned and her childhood “imaginary friend”'s impact on her and how she was disregarded by various mental health professionals definitely felt more impactful watching it now when I’m older. Amy and Rory are my favorite fictional couple of all time, and I love how the Eleventh Doctor is just always there besides them. Also, the music from series 5-7a is probably my favorite Doctor Who music! His series 5-7a TARDIS is my second favorite TARDIS interior. Yippee for the Eleventh Doctor!

I really enjoy the 11th Doctor’s almost facade? Like the fact he can be so upbeat warm and youthful but so cold and dark underneath in moments. I really like his time with Amy and Rory, and River!

11 got me into the show and he’s my second favorite Doctor. He’s fun and I like how he can switch from that to being serious. Amy and Rory are great. 11 and Clara are underrated

Iblike Series 7 a lot, I was so shocked to find out it wasn’t as popular as I thought it would be!

I’ll go to bat for s7 forever. I love the story Moffat was telling in it and the way he plays with the way the Doctor impacts people and how his perception of them can make them wonderful as well as ruin them

Aaah, my Doctor, as should be blatantly obvious to all of you by now.

I love this portrayal of the Doctor. An old man in a young man’s body and a little boy having to cope with very mature emotions. He’s so complex that every time you rewatch an Eleventh Doctor story, you find out new things about him. The fact that he hides his Time War guilt under jis b

He’s whimsical, childish, alien, wise, fierce, and dangerous. He’s all that and so much more, and Matt Smith owns every moment. He made me appreciate bowties, and it’s thanks to him I began styling my hair in a way reminiscent of his hair, and that style has stuck with me for 12 years now.

And Karen Gillan? Such a gorgeous actress playing a relatable companion. Jenna Coleman is equally attractive and talented in a much more mysterious companion role, but her best moments came with Capaldi.

I wore a bowtie to my wedding thanks to him.

I actually like her with 11 more. But that might just be because I like 11 much more than 12.

She only got half a series with Eleven, so there wasn’t a lot of time to develop their relationship. I adore Series 7B, though (but desperately need to rewatch it).

I think that the 11th Doctor has the best first episode of any Doctor. Eleventh hour is just the perfect episode with a small story that gives us time to get to know the new Doctor but also sets up the season’s mystery great.

Although “Vincent and the Doctor” is the only series 5 episode that I would consider to be a favorite, I genuinely don’t think there is a bad episode in that series. Series 5 has probably the most interesting mystery arc. It’s super impressive how Matt Smitth was able to show both the whimsy and the anger in the Eleventh Doctor, especially since he was cast as such a young age as compared to other doctors. His speech in the series 5 finale (can’t remember which part) is always great! The Eleventh Doctor has the best NSAs IMO.

Another thing i liked about this era was the dynamic of having a married couple aboard the tardis.
Felt like such a far cry from days gone by
