Elementary, my dear Watson: The Sherlock Holmes Thread

Surely there’s some fan crossover here, & some of us here love Arthur Conan Doyle’s wonderful creation. From his original books to the movies, TV shows, further novels etc.

Jeremy Brett, my favourite Holmes.

I like a lot of different Sherlock Holmes adaptations but one of my favourites is a bit controversial:

I love that House is a Sherlock Holmes adaptation, it’s such a ridiculous show but that adds an extra layer.

Now you mention it… I can’t decide between House, M.D. and Elementary :weary:

House is a Holmes adaptation? I knew the character was inspired by Holmes but…

Maybe it brings it full circle, with Doyle’s inspiration for Holmes allegedly being the surgeon Joseph Bell.

Ive just started rewatching the Jeremy Brett series, not seen it for years.

I didn’t know house was an adaptation of sherlock holmes, but I did describe it to someone as if sherlock was a doctor.

I’ve only seen a couple episodes of House but wouldn’t consider it an adaptation of Sherlock Holmes tbh.

I’m surprised nobody has mentioned it yet, but Doctor Who has an actual crossover with Sherlock Holmes, and it’s a total blast (in my humble opinion): All-Consuming Fire by Andy Lane! It’s certainly one of the better books of Virgin New Adventures series.

There’s also a Big Finish adaptation by Guy Adams!

And we also have this one from the Faction Paradox series. Don’t know how that works. Don’t know when I could ever get to this book.

I actually have an idea for a Holmes & Dr Who crossover story. Maybe I will do something with it.

Superb book, although I’ve yet to listen to the audio adaptation.

I’m rewatching “Sherlock” these days.
And I had forgotten how much I actually enjoy it.
Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are good as Sherlock and Watson. But the MVPs are Una Stubbs and Mark Gatiss for me

I laughed my head off in the very first episode that the resolution came because the victim had something called a “smartphone” with “GPS” so she could be tracked. How farfetched is that, it’ll never catch on :eyes::upside_down_face:

And I am (slowly) reading All-consuming Fire at the moment (and totally picturing Cumberbatch and Freeman in the book )

Oh yes, and with credentials. I’m in the middle of the photo of ‘Sherlock Holmes fans’ in the DK ‘The Sherlock Holmes Book’.

[Oh and I also appear in the A-Z of Holmes actors - A-Z Index - No Place Like Holmes]

They miss out my favourite line from the book, and I was so looking forward to the lovely Lisa Bowerman saying it.

As everyone else seems to be doing so, my favourite Holmes’, but as I can’t choose I’m doing it by medium:

Radio/Audio - Clive Merrison [Radio 4]
Film: Robert Stephens [‘The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes’]
TV: Jeremy Brett [Granada, but not ‘The Last Vampyre’ or the final series when he was unwell]
Stage: Roger Llewellyn [‘SH: The Last Act’/‘The Death & Life of SH’] (narrowly edging out @deltaandthebannermen)

I must admit to a certain fondness for Jonny Lee Miller’s Holmes (and his first screen credit was Fifth Doctor adventure ‘Kinda’)

What? He’s in Kinda?! I’ll have to revisit this serial sometime
