I will soon start to read the Doom’s Day event. It seems to be much more straightforward than TLV. Is there anything I should read or see before I start? Have you read it? What did you think about it?
I will be doing micro-reviews of every entry as I did in my TLV thread.
I only read the beginning and ending short stories that are available, listened to the Four to Doom’s Day audio and played the event on mobile game.
I was a bit underwhelmed by the whole thing if I am honest. I just don’t buy into Doom being the best assassin in the Universe, and Sooz Kempner seems miscast in the role from what I’ve seen/heard of it.
I am a bit intrigued by the Extraction Point book, the Second and Ninth Doctors together versus the Slitheen? That’s a “Once and Future” kitchensink approach to storytelling
You are doing good work on behalf of Doctor Who fans everywhere @Tian by doing this (a badge must be called for)
I read the opening story and the DWM comic, and then I gave up (I even bought the Titan comic but have yet to read it). It just felt too silly for me. It might turn better later on, who knows. I might give the audios a listen at some point if they’re good.
But I am so tired of the MCU. I don’t want to watch all the movies that I have skipped just to be caught up before that. I would do it of course but I don’t want to…
It mostly sets up the premises for the event. It feels a bit silly but also a bit of fun. It also has an older Doctor in it. 12? As a prologue, I think that it works as it sets up the stakes and introduces our main character. 3.5/5
Next up: Target Selected - DWM Comic. It is not on the site yet. Wonder if I will read it before @shauny imports that sheet.
I couldn’t really take the character of Doom seriously, though I expect I will get around to listening to the DD audio with Eight eventually, for Paul McGann reasons rather than caring about the event at all. This whole thing just seemed a little lacklustre to me, but I’m interested to see your thoughts as you go through it!
Why did they force this many stories into these few pages? There is no time to get to know Doom or what she is doing on each mission. Did they even answer why there were Cybermen in Hollywood? 1.5/5
Next up: The Horn of a Dilemma - the last DWM comic
I think this was my favorite of the DWM comics but it was still too short. The main difference is that this was more like a fun comic strip and less focused on the story. 2.5/5
Next up: A Doctor In The House? - Titan Comics. I have higher expectations of this one. I think that almost all Titan Comics I read have been good at least.
The first hour of Titan Comics was much better than the DWM once. It is a bit longer and much better written. I still find it a bit short but a huge improvement. And Misquerade as the Doctor is fun. Just a bit wasted that she did not dress more as one of the Doctors (even if the 12 at her hat was a nice touch). It is also fun that she introduces herself as Doctor Who. 3.5/5
I love that Missy continues to be in the story. It was not as good as the last hour but it was good. I thought that it was a bit strange that this was the second story set in Storm Cage but Doom did not mention that. This panel with Missy was fun. 3.5/5
This was an okay story but I have now read 8 stories with Doom as the main character and I still know nothing about her. Missy was great as always. 3/5
