The Doctor keeps trying to get his TARDIS to work!

He does it in practically every story lol

Well, you should try being forced to exist in one place and time, unable to move freely across time and space and you’d understand how frustrating it is! The Doctor refuses to give up hope of making the TARDIS work again!

(And they had to find a way to include the TARDIS in the show now that they don’t have time-space travel anymore…)

Spoilers: He eventually manages it.

What?!? Next you’ll be telling me that the Doctor regenerates into a crazy scarf-wearing lunatic…

No, no, no! He’s going to wear a vegetable and dress in rainbows!

I finished Terror of the Autons!

I loved that, it was such a great story. A new one for my favourites list!

The Master shines in his first appearance, the Autons are even creepier than they were in Spearhead, and Jo somehow manages to be even better than Liz!

After having all those seven-parters, my only complaint is that this one was too short!

I also made a start on the next serial by watching episode 1 of The Mind of Evil. Looks like this is going to be a good one. @Mindfog, is that you?

Maybe it’s the uncommon take, but I find the Autons more effective in Spearhead.

Hold on, did you say better than Liz?

Yes indeed - killer daffodils, armchairs and that ■■■■■■■ creepy doll :sob:

This is a take I rarely see said about four-parters.

It is him!

Yes, because it’s true

While I still quite like Jo, I much prefer Liz. The confident, competent scientist I think is a much better character, especially compared to Jo in just Autons, where she’s portrayed as a clumsy, not very bright, impulsive, and easily taken over by the Master person. I think it’s such a downgrade, even if Jo definitely grows as she goes on. Liz was the exact perfect companion Three needed for during exile and I’ll always be disappointed they decided Liz was redundant and not relatable enough to stick around. He didn’t need someone to hand him test tubes and tell him how brilliant he is like the Brig says.

Only just.

I love Liz, and I love Jo.

And it looks like there are EU stories with Liz and Jo together, so I can’t wait to experience those!

Later Jo I think is definitely a lot closer. Season 10 Jo is pretty consistently great, but preferring Jo to Liz this early on surprises me.

Well I often latch on to characters as soon as I’m introduced to them.

That’s understandable, and there are some endearing qualities about Jo. She’s very well meaning and very nice, she’s very likeable. Probably because she’s also Katy.

Well the Pertwee era couldn’t have maintained it’s quality forever.

The Mind of Evils is the first Third Doctor story I… didn’t really like :frowning:
