These events are always great fun. I’ve been lucky to go to a couple.
It’s a little out of the way for me but I really have to get to one of these before the range is through. I’m sure there’ll be excuses to screen classic who until the end of time, but I don’t want to risk missing the boat!
So it’s Happiness Patrol!
I’ll be away that weekend. But as a member of the BFI I do get advanced booking, 1pm tomorrow. Still not always easy but if anyone can get to London I can try to get tickets.
Always wanted to do one of these screenings with my friend but found it impossible to book tickets. Will try again for this one though!
I can try & get a couple tickets for you if you want. Usually sells out during BFI members presale.
If you could I’d appreciate it so so much!
I am beyond excited about this. A long-running television show on the eve of cancellation should not be this spectacular, imaginative, confident and overall brilliant. I remember as a youngster, being blown away by just about every element of Remembrance of the Daleks and thinking - as I still do - that The Kandyman is brilliant: straight out of a child’s nightmare!
There’s the tiniest rumour going round that following Series 25, the next Blu-ray boxset could be Jon Pertwee’s Series 7.
Happiness will prevail!
I’ve been picking up these sets where i can afford (usually the standard editions / or someone selling cheap on eBay)
I love Lee Binding’s artwork.
I was expecting the next release in this range to be one of Troughton’s seasons. Nevertheless a pretty good choice.
There was an error when they did the BFI screening. They showed the original version not the updated one. So they are doing it again!
Not sure if anyone else was at the BFI when they showed the wrong version but it was still a fun experience I thought, Sheila Hancock was phenomenally good value and Fifi being in attendance was a cool addition.
I was a little disappointed not to see the special edition but not enough to sour the whole thing. Looking forward to actually seeing it on the 29th!
What an embarrassing blunder. Did they hire past candidates from The Apprentice to do this?
A really fun day I thought, and the panel was one of the best I’ve seen at an event. Unfortunately I can’t make the 29th so will miss the special edition, but it’ll only be a few weeks to wait for the set. However I will admit I’m such a bad fan I had no idea we weren’t watching the special edition until it paused (cue flashbacks to the Mindwarp screening in 2019), the lights came on and Justin addressed us!
I just thought the special edition wasn’t all that special yet! Shame you can’t make the second attempt. I wonder if it’ll just be a screening with the event having already taken place or if they’ll throw together another panel, albeit a bit more rudimentary this time.
Sylv and Sophie are said to be going, so there’ll be a panel of some description but I expect it’ll be a bit less of an “event”.
Don’t be sorry for me not being to be able to go, I’m doing a Star Wars marathon at the local Odeon instead!
@monkeyshaver - thanks so much for sharing this. What a real treat! Great to hear such praise for the Kandyman apart from everything else.
I have 2 spare tickets for the 2nd screening on Sunday 29th @ 16:30 if anyone wants them?
Are you not able to make it?
I’m a BFI member, bought tickets for the original screening for another forum member. Due to the screening error BFI gave me complementary tickets for this 2nd screening. I’m busy but also not a 7th Doctor fan tbh.
