Doctor Who Magazine Comics

There is a page where the Doctor’s (and Frobisher’s) body goes back into previous regens because time is going on reverse, but eh. I guess this is as much a multi-Doctor as Timeslip, but at least there that’s the heart of the whole story. Kinda.

I am not sure if it’s listed as multi-Doctor in the Guide tho. I just saw some talk of it as such.

That reminds me: I can’t take Frobisher the Barbarian seriously.

I always forget about Frobisher the Barbarian!

Finished Kane’s Story.

It reintroduces Peri in what is the most confunsing version of her for me. Peri and Frobisher are listed in The Quin Dilemma just after solo Peri and solo Frobisher, but this is a pre-Trial of a Time Lord Peri, right? So, is this the original Peri that for whatever reason stopped travelling with the Doctor or is this another Peri that could be justified by Peri and the Piscon Paradox?

You could argue the first is true, but I rather prefer the original Peri to go through the Lost Stories and her Main Range adventures with Six, and I just can’t see Peri leaving the Doctor to live in New York after The Reaping.

So I would prefer this Peri to be another Peri that Six meets through his travels, but I know in later stories she starts wearing clothes that indicates we are heading to Trial of a Time Lord. But I just can’t rationalise this Peri and (main?) Big Finish Peri as the same Peri.

To clarify: I love having multiple Peris, but WHYYYYYYY ARE WE PLACING THIS TARDIS TEAM IN THIS POINT OF THE TIMELINE, NOOOOOO

I know I am trying to rationalise conflicting creative choices over 40 years of stories, but I never said I wasn’t a lunatic

I need to get my hands on Six’s comics. Those are gorgeous…

I’m a fair few into the seventh Doctor’s DWM era, and while the quality isn’t as consistent as other eras I’ve read I absolutely loved Planet of the Dead (not that one). The most inventive multi-Doctor story and multi-companion story I’ve seen in expanded media.

I love Planet of the Dead - the bit with the dead companions is so good!

Absolutely fantastic. Wild choice of companions: Adric, Kararina, Sara Kingdom, Jamie, Peri and Frobisher…?!

Without going into spoilers, there is a reason for Jamie being there that is justified by previous comics. Not sure about Peri and Frobisher tho.

Frobisher has just left him a few issues before at that point.

I read all of the Cruel Sea and Eye of Torment collections yesterday.

The titular story of the Cruel Sea was the standout in that collection for me, with a lot of weak comics scattered throughout.

The Eye of Torment is definitely a success however with each story being good!

Yeah I remember being underwhelmed by most of the 9th Doctor comic strips.

Ninth’s “era” seems kinda a waste - having read it but just lookin at it you can’t tell it’s way less cohesive than what we were doing before. Plus it being so short gets in the way.

The Eye of Torment has Blood and Ice by Jac Rayner, right? I am excited to read a lot of Twelve, but specially that one.

Yeah, it has Eye of Torment, Instruments of War, and Blood and Ice. Plus a Paternoster Gang comic, The Crystal Throne!

I am currently working on writing a reading order for the DWM strips, going by anthologies so it’s easier for most people to access! I’ll make a topic for it when I’ve finished it!

Just hit a problem in my reading order guide!

I’m wondering whether to include Yearbook, Specials, and Backup strips in the list.

I don’t know if I should or not, and if so, I’m not sure where to place a lot of them!

Some of the backups I think are worth putting with the main releases. Kroton’s for example give a nice background for his character.

Haven’t read most of them yet sooooo. But Character Assassin was put in volume three of the Eighth Doctor paperbacks and I think it fits well enough.

The Yearbooks I am not so sure. They can fit, but overall maybe make them an extra volume or something like that.

The Monster Makers: Best 15 comic yet, although it does have its faults. I have high hopes for the next story now!

(By the way, I can’t seem to find this on the site @shauny?)
