I’m optimistic about this year’s comic strips. Barnes has the entire year to do whatever he wants before the strip necessarily shift focus to whatever the show decides to do with the Doctor in December. Whenever DWM can do whatever they want is all when DWM is at its best.
(But they totally need to raise the page count. C’mon, once upon a time we peaked with 12 pages per month with Eleven! Let’s go back to those glorious days!)
The Tides of Time is wild and a ton of fun! Five is really delightful in comic form, and I adore the crazy format-breaking sequences in the middle. Scott Parkhouse is an excellent Who comic writer!
Read Profits of Doom this morning. The alien design was really cool. It’s a shame though that Seth has never reappeared. He’s a fascinating villain that I’d love to see return.
It’s been a long time since a comic story made me gasp out loud but what a delight to see Fey Truscott-Sade. Love the fact she gets to meet 15 (but it’s before she knows the 8th Doctor so I’ll be interested to see where it goes).
We really need to amp up the page count. Six pages per month is just too few and make the cliffhangers feel really, really clunky. I unfortunately think it’s also time for the creative team to regenerate.
I have lots of respect for Barnes’ work in Doctor Who, and he has done some cool stuff in DWM since his return, but I’ve not been enjoying his scripts as much as I wished I was. Ten or at least eight pages per month certaintly would help the stories have more room to breathe, but if it isn’t happening…
Maybe it’s time to read these stories again. They flow a lot better once they’re completed. I’m putting a pin on that.
The new badges have given me some motivation to read more of he DWM comics so I’ve been getting through the Eighth Doctor ones in the past few days
They’ve all been pretty good so far, and I’m especially enjoying Fey as a companion
You know what’d be cool, now that we don’t have a current Doctor? To pick up where the 8th Doctor comics left off and finish Destrii’s arc and give her a proper exit
I think it’d be best to give Fifteenth his own run of comics unbound to TV restraints, but yeah, I dream of the day we get ongoing adventures of the Eighth Doctor and Destrii by Scott Gray. One can only hope…
