Just for fun. What did you rate the book:
I read the first three chapters on my way to work. It seems to be a fun and light read. It is set on an alien planet and feels very different in that regard to Ruby Red. It is too early to say anything about the characters yet.
Can’t wait to read this once my copy arrives! (currently it’s supposed to arrive some time tomorrow)
I finished the first nine chapters on my commute today.
This is a lot of fun! I especially like the parts that are kind of written in Chirracharrs perspective.
Also, the Doctor just deciding: This robot armadillo is my pet now! Its name is Fred! (I couldn’t help but think about the Romana connection on that part) is so cute! I love it.
All in all pretty intriguing setting. Very interested in what will happen next.
I have had some stressful days and have not had time to read. But just read some more. Finished chapter 7. I love how they make humans and time lords seem alien by describing them from their perspective.
10 chapters in. I relly like this story and all the characters in it. The saddest part of the NSA is that characters almost never return. I want more stories both with these characters and the once from Ruby Red.
I finished the book earlier today on my train ride.
I liked the book fairly well. It would even get a I liked it a lot if it wasn’t for the fact that the ending didn’t seem right to me. It felt weirdly cut off to me and could have used another one or two chapters to finish up in my opinion. It just felt like it was missing something idk.
Now I want to finish it to read the blurry text
I finished the book now. I liked it as a whole. I agree with @Schroedingerswhat that the ending felt rushed and that lowered the book’s score for me. The setup was nice with an interesting mystery and great characters. As I wrote before, I really liked how the author made humanoids feel ailien by describing them through the lens of the ailiens. I also liked the planet and its peaceful people. I give the book 3.5/5
I just realised caged is by the same author as royal blood! And another one for my book wish list.
Hoping to start this one myself today or tomorrow! It sounds interesting!
I have not read that one. Is it good?
It’s a light read, but I really liked it. Particularly the setting is very interesting imo. (Medieval like planet with some high tech elements from a distant past no one actually knows how to build anymore)
Starting this tonight. It’s enjoyable so far, I just wish the aliens in the river valley were described in a little more detail.
If I remember correctly, they are described a little more later on. McCormack makes it a slow reveal.
There’s a passage on page 29 that reads: “A pale pink sun was rising in a golden sky. Little orange clouds scudded past. This world was lovely, Ruby thought. Its colours were like a paintbox, and the air was sweet and fresh and clean.” My first thought when reading this was that this is a reference to the Quantel Paintbox (Quantel Paintbox - Tardis Wiki) program that was used for visual effects in the 80s (specifically on the Mindward beach scenes).
Finished this last night. It was enjoyable and I could totally see it as a TV story with Disney money. It wasn’t anything outstanding, but once it got going it went by quick. My only issue, and this is totally on me for not having rewatched much Ncuti, but I had a hard hearing Gatwa in my head. Instead, my mind was inserting Eccleston way too often.
9th and 15th are actually very much alike, don’t you think? The way they laugh… It gives me the same chill
And the fact that they have the same haircut and similar leather jackets lol
The main difference being that one is Northern and the other one is Scottish, and someone would argue that that is a huge difference
