So, whilst other people were climbing up the leaderboard, I spent yesterday evening playing The Time of the Daleks board game with @peribrown and @NonbinaryAroace.
The general idea is that the rules and win conditions are constantly changing, so there’s a lot of trying to figure out what you’re doing and changing plans on the fly
Unfortunately having played a couple other versions of Fluxx, I think the Doctor Who one is probably my least favourite to play, the theming sort of constricts it a bit, and it doesn’t have some of the stupid charm that something like the pirate version did
I have the Fluxx (including the 13th Doctor add on) and really enjoy it. I only played another version last weekend which was Star Trek TNG which didn’t seem hugely different in game play from the Who one.
Oh I have Time of the Daleks too, it’s a fun game. Still need that 3/8/13 one and I guess the companions sets to see what that’s all about. I have another game, a Smith era trivia based game I think. Also Doctor Who Fluxx. I like board games but so rarely have anyone to play with. Sometimes I just play as all the players.
I need to get the expansions for the other Doctors and I think there’s another companion add-on. I haven’t played the companion bit yet as this was only the third time I’ve ever played the game and we were trying to remember the rules. And even then, we kept forgetting bits.
It’s definitely worth it. it’s a good cooperative game with lots of elements. It’s not for the faint-hearted though. It took the three of us about 3 hours to play.
I think Time of the Daleks would be slightly better as a purely cooperative game (though, one could easily play it that way). There’s a degree of semi-cooperativeness how it can have just a single winner, and one can try to be that single winner, but the more competitive one gets, the more likely it is that everyone will end up losing. One time I was so close to the end, and left my dad out to dry one turn to maintain my lead, which resulted in Daleks happening and a tricky Dalek event getting tripped, and the Daleks won.
I’ve got some of those, but I haven’t actually used them yet because they’re still in the DWA packaging (I really should open it to read the comics inside but alas, my desire to keep things in their packaging thwarts me once again.)
The Exterminate is MINE. You don’t have a dalek force inspired by the web series they did based on the old comics sitting in your room where you haven’t touched them for 3 years and now that I am writing this message need a repaint!
I have The Interactive Electronic Boardgame, Battle for the Universe and The Game of Time & Space. I’ve played The Game of Time & Space quite recently. It had a lot of setup but was quite fun. I’m hoping to play Battle for the Universe at some point early next year.
