Well, in my opinion, they’re…
worse.
So. Much. Worse.
But it’s lots of fun having people to chat with about them, so they are definitely worth it!

Oh boy, he looks like a Disney Prince!
Just read A Klytode Christmas and it was quite good - the return of Bert and Jimmy adds a bit more heft to the emotional centre of the story (Bert sacrificing himself to save Earth) even if there’s a last minute cop-out. The return of Klytode is fun too, even if their depiction is a bit silly.
This is also, I’ve realised the last appearance of Martha as this would have been released around the time of Voyage of the Damned (Kylie is on the front cover) so she’s left the series, for the time being, on TV. The Doctor is travelling solo again for the next story.
A Klytode Christmas was one of my favourites, I still think about it sometimes randomly. High praise for these comics.
Been a while since I read these so thought I’d get a few more ticked off. The first panel of Hot Metal has a cheeky Star Trek gag, I think:
We’re so back.
I was looking at the character tracker recently and thinking ‘how can Amy have so many stories?’
It’s DWA. It’s always DWA.
The big question is why there arent more quality EU stuff with Amy!
I think with a lot of NuWho companions they don’t get much focus after they leave unless they sign up for Big Finish. I just checked and it looks like Amy has appeared in 14 stories since February 2013, with almost all of them being as part of anthologies, minisodes or video games with loads of characters in.
I think that’s right, I’m having a bit of trouble navigating the guide at the moment, it keeps thinking I’m trying to click on the gallifreyan symbols in the background.
I read Bat Attack! / The Battle of Reading Gaol and did not find it that good. What I did find amazing was @deltaandthebannermen’s 890-word review of it! I recommend that much more then the story!
It’s a, excuse the pun, bat-shit crazy comic strip.
Well, this is a lovely Thread and can make my knowledge I gained from the Comics I read of it for once! The first useful Thing of those Comics, yippie
Agreed. They really are disappointingly dull and just a bit of nothing. Will I still finish all of them? Oh yes, of course. Will I enjoy myself? Ehhh.. Probably not.
I like the Idea fine enough, and some Art is nicer, for sure. Looking at what was before that, which I all read.. yeah it’s the best one by far so far.
I thought it was alright for the Standard of this Range honestly, at least much better than The Germ War and Under the Volcano
Anyway, as with most Ranges I jump around (and admittedly I was mainly interested in reading the twelfth Doctor Comics, which I have to finish! But then decided to wanting to do all of them since despite being fairly dull at least they are short enough so what ever maybe there are some decent ones in there! (I hope)) which means I will probably comment on some Comments of some Stories much later!
Which Switch? is a boring short Comic, which at least knows that it needs a short Premise behind it. Is it any good? Not really, and fairly boring. The Art is okay, and while I am aware it’s mainly targeted for very small children. I don’t think it does excuse the lack of Quality offered here, still it’s a start for this Range, so I rate it somewhat decent with a 2/5.
Mirror Image is a bit more ambitious, which I appreciate, but is slightly worse since it falls flat. Cliche after cliche and yet another proof that those first ones at least were just kinda written without much rhyme or reason, the Art is decent enough. 1,5/5
Under Volcano is just boring. I am not going to sugarcoat, this is just boring. And I can excuse bad Doctor Who, I cannot excuse boring Doctor Who.
Doctor Who should never be boring 0,5/5
The Germ War* is very much a cliche Story, but hey I like some Art with our Aliens here, so that’s a plus. Honestly just slightly better compared to the last Story. 1/5
Warfreekz is the best so far, the Plot is somewhat interesting, and the Art has some lovely Touches to them. For all the Standards of those Comics, so far I think it’s solid enough. There are definitely some signs that we can do better, far away from actually decent or good, but hey it’s a start! 2/5
Anddd that’s where my first chronological gap is. I think I will try to write my Thoughts on each of the Comics, probably very short “Reviews”, but oh well there isn’t much to say with some of them. Although I did briefly write a Review for the only 13th Doctor DWA here:
It seems I have my very own Attack Pattern…
What on earth is going on with Hot Metal? I don’t think I understood how Ray Royce got trapped in the newspaper and I definitely don’t understand why it was called Hot Metal. Bit rubbish that one.
Got bored so I read a bit more of those and hey I think they are actually somewhat consistent finally(?!) still far away from truly great but it’s a start!
A Delicate Operation does a Story overdone in Media. Characters exploring a Body was even at that Point a bit of a tiring Trope. That said it being an Alien Body makes it unique, I like some Backgrounds thanks to it. The Ending is fine. For what it tries to do it’s short but knows how to use it’s time. 2,5/5
Blood and Tears is somewhat unremarkable, some nice Drawings here and there, and I think it’s okay, but overall not much to add there. Just kinda there really. 2/5
Fried Death: Is it that good as everybody said? Yes. Yes it is. The first great one, the Idea fits for the Short Length, the Drawings are pretty fun too! It also does have a great Vibe to it, so yippie a truly good one! 3,5/5
Bizarre Zero honestly this one was solid too? A bit unremarkable, I do love the Ice Dragon-like Creature here! The Story itself is just kinda meh, but it’s clear that the Writers of DWA learned how to use pacing in their short Time. 2,5/5
Save the Humans Hmm, a bit indifferent about it. I like the Concept, but I feel like it got a bit underexplored and didn’t get as much Time as it could have had. Solid Idea, meh Presentation. 2/5
Just read The Halls of Sacrifice and that was quite a fun story with some clever subversion of expectations of how the story would pan out.
I thought that The Hunters / Cliffhanger! was kind of good.
Ah yes - the wonderfully named Kara McGravy!
I know. That was amazing!
