Blake’s 7 reference in a kids comic!

Minus Seven Wonders is good although it goes a bit downhill in the second part. The whistlestop tour of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World in the first part is fun though, and looks really good in the artwork. 3.5/5

Ooh, Martha’s in her Last of the Time Lords costume for the next strip - The Last Soldier. Nice bit of attention to detail.

Sort of glossing over the slavery with Doctor Who’s first POC companion there

Not great look, but at least it’s mentioned I guess

Actually slavery then gets further mention later on in the story with Martha reacting to it a bit more like you might expect. But then I’m not sure a DWA strip is time or place to have a proper deep dive into the various wrongs of history. There’s barely any room for story and nuance as it is.

(And are we forgetting Sharon and Mickey…? )

Ah okay that’s good then!

Oh no, I don’t know if it is either, but it seemed to just get almost glossed over completely and at the very least I don’t think that smoothing over is the way to go (so I’m glad it isn’t how they went!)

True, still, first main TV companion

I’m not sure it’s handled particularly well but Martha does properly react to the idea of all of humanity being sold into slavery. Maybe the Pyramids bit is more a case of her knowing full well how the pyramids were built and therefore not needing to react to the Doctor’s comment - she can’t change that history. But later, she can protest against it happening in the future (the old Doctor Who conundrum of what counts as interfering in ‘history’).

The Last Soldier is pretty good - although the image of a pregnant alien wearing a peaked cap is pretty bizarre!

Oh and it’s half tank too…

Okay now I have to keep reading this!

I don’t think there’s an emoji that quite conveys my feelings towards this panel, so I just settled on :k9:

It was quite the surprise when I was reading it - I had wondered why Pregnancy was listed as a trope on the Guide.

(Why even is Pregnancy a trope - is it in that many stories?)

Signs of Life is a bit of an odd story. Starts off with a trip to see the Beatles and ends up on an alien world that wants to steal some of Martha’s DNA.

Another 2.5.5 I think.

Tell us what you really think of the story…

I hate when that happens…

OK, it’s the best comic I’ve ever read, in fact, make it best peice of Doctor Who ever!

Also I finished Heads you Lose, because I thought I’d do some catching up. Next, it’s…

Another two parter.

Oh.

After a while they’re just all two parters, there’s even a 3 parter! Wow

I don’t know what to think of that…

Shipwreck was okay. Cook was a bit of a knob and there’s a bit where he betrays the humans to the aliens and then the aliens turn on him too and he says - that wasn’t the deal - and yet there is never a deal made. He just grasses on the alien helping the Doctor.
