If it’s a new Doctor, the Doctor tends to regenerate into people they’ve met before…
I wanna pitch Fiona Shaw as the Doctor… I really wanna do a fic with her as the Doctor tbh
All the genders!
There’s so many actors of companions who’d make excellent doctors too and you could so much with that emotional impact…
Definitely!
Pearl Mackie as the Doctor?
My best tip is that you can set a time limit for a poll. I do this in my read-along and always close it at 06:00 CET. This ensures that people don’t vote after the decision is made.
Has anybody already made a Thread for the Polls or do we think @mndy should have the honor of doing it?
(Also yeah agreed, would be probably the best Part to do a poll first about it being a pre-existing Incarnation or not, I’d say if we are doing pre-existing it should probably be 15 by default. Since then, we have a whole Playbox to play, but that’s just me)
I’m half with you, half not
I think it should be 15 if we’re working with a normal ‘numbered’ doctor, but I think playing with Fugitive, Shalka, or Rowan Atkinson could also be fun
I can do it now!
Is this the right topic to discuss pros and cons of the different poll options? Or should we do that in the topic with the polls?
I’d say to keep the discussion here for now, I guess?
Great. I think that an ‘original’ doctor would give more chance at democracy, because different people can make different suggestions for their variety of features and characteristics, and there would be more likelihood of everyone seeing at least something they want in the doctor. Whereas a preexisting one would please those who vote for them, but not necessarily anyone who votes for another. The only issue might be that we’d have to keep them a very nebulous, vague ‘future’ or 16th incarnation of the doctor, with a gap in the continuity because we don’t know what’s going to happen to 15 next. This won’t be too problematic though imo.
If the Build-a-Doctor option wins, are we gonna “cast” someone? I’m thinking it would be easier than to run polls for physical attributes, but there are approximately a billion actors to choose from. Or we could just not care about how exactly they look like, just the basic ‘older/younger looking’ and that’s it?
Oh and my own personal suggestion for a quality for an original doctor would be an older woman, because we have seen old men* (1, 3, 12), young men* (5, 11, etc etc) and a younger woman*, but not yet an older one, and I think older women are badly underrepresented in fiction.
*obviously, they aren’t technically men or women, and half the ones that look old are younger than half the ones that look young, but hopefully my point makes sense.
Count me in the same boat for an older woman Doctor. I really hope 16 isn’t a man.
Number of returning elements could be one, covers a lot and we can narrow it down further after. Also ep count. If it should be serialised or not!
Yeah this would make it a bit difficult. Personality traits are probably more important than physical appearance, but sometimes physical appearance can be plot-relevant (like 12 taking caecilius’ face as a reminder, and it being an older face to signify the doctor being more honest about their age)
I think unless it will be that important, we don’t need to cast someone. Instead just age/gender etc polls.
If we decide to cast an actor, there can be a period of time for people to nominate some, then they can be made into a list to vote on (or if there are too many suggestions, the ones with the most likes maybe?)
Alright, before everything gets too complicated with the cheer amount of possibilities for the game, I think we should have a smaller group of people that want to work on the game and organise everything. Otherwise it’s gonna be a poll inside a poll inside a poll for every single decision, and we don’t want that.
If you wanna officially join in, reply here and send us your CV. For now it’s me and @Jamie. We’re capping it at 10 people, again, just to simplify things and keep it manageable!
Can I join in officially?
May I join in officially as well? I’d love to have a go at it!
