Dinosaurs on a Space Station - An Ark: Survival Evolved Thread

So I started incubating a batch of 8 Fire Wyvern eggs, at optimal temperature, it’ll take 27 minutes. I decided to go to the Ragnarok map and my initial thought was to start going to find nest sites and collect Wyvern eggs (specifically Ice Wyverns since they’re exclusive to this map). However, I discovered that this is a map I barely touched. So, I basically have to explore the map from scratch. This map is so cool! One of the first things I discover is an old castle (pictures below) inhabited by giant spiders, bats and ants. There’s all sorts of biomes all jumbled together, and lots of cool ruins[1]. Resources seem more plentiful and easier to get, the creatures seem a little less concentrated than other maps. Be aware that this isn’t a story map (no Explorer Notes) and did start life as a fan mod. As such there do be appear some noticable bugs that aren’t in the other maps (such as no materials lists when hovering over crafting recipes). But still, having a really fun time exploring.

Hopped back on Ark this morning. Found some Wyvern nests and stole a few eggs. This Ragnarok map is amazing! It’s beautiful, with all sorts of things to discover.

Found a couple Ice Wyverns, but absolutely no sign of any nests. Going youtube it, see what I’m missing.

Update: Youtubed it and went to some of the specified locations. Still nothing. There are other maps with the Ice Wyverns, so I might try those.

Playing around on the Valguero map (another source of Ice Wyverns). Looking through the lists of console commands online, I found a few to play with. One “getegg” potentially drops a fertilized egg of whatever creature you’re targeting. That worked some of the time. The other couple I used allowed me to spawn several more onto the map, so hopefully that’ll increase the chance of naturally spawning eggs.

So spawning in a bunch of Ice Wyverns worked, I found some eggs spawned naturally. I also collected a bunch of naturally spawned[1] Deinonychus eggs. Now I’m back on the Island waiting for that first batch of Fire Wyverns to incubate.

My current plan on Ark is multi-step. I want to continue breeding the creatures I have. I have the Fire Wyverns in the incubator at the moment that will need attention. On Scorched Earth, I’ll need to collect the artifacts and take on the Guardian and ascend. I also want to continue to collect the Explorer Notes for those two maps. Once I’ve ascended from Scorched Earth, I’ll move on to Aberation. On top of that, there’s three more non-story maps with unique creatures to explore and collect.

Hatched my first batch (8 eggs) of Fire Wyverns. I ended up getting two batches of triplets which is amazing[1]. Because it takes quite a while for them mature/need imprinting, I went back to my other base and pulled a bunch of tames out of cryo-storage to breed them. Next time I get on, I’ll continue working on the Island for the time being.

  1. normally each egg produces one baby, twins happen but aren’t common, triplets are quite rare (I actually think this is the first time but I can’t be certain) ↩︎

Spent more time at my Island bases. Fully imprinted my Fire Wyverns, now just waiting for them to finish growing up, then I can breed them. I also did another round of breeding my other creatures. Unfortunately, two of my Troodon starved somehow, luckily I still have enough to breed and I do have eggs stored that I can hatch. After my Wyverns are matured and bred, I think I’ll jump over to the Lost Island non-story map. More Wyverns, Magmasaurs (large fantasy reptile that doubles as living forge and meat cooker), and a new dinosaur species.

This is basically @DarthGallifrey’s thread

Yeah, probably. I was posting so much in the “Currently Playing” thread that it was suggested we just create a new Ark specific topic.

If you couldn’t tell, I love dinosaurs. Have for as long as I can remember. So, a survival game with dinosaurs, sign me up. I have a lot of fun with Ark. But then there’s the game’s story. A story of survival, discovery, secrets and bravery. Youtuber NeddyTheNoodle (who has now left Ark behind) spearheaded some excellent lore videos. The following are in-game[1] dramatizations of the Explorer Notes that tell the game’s story. Neddy did these “Complete Survival Stories” videos for the first three story maps: The Island, Scorched Earth, and Aberration. That’s what follows below:

Played some more Ark yesterday afternoon. Bred a few more dinosaurs, my Sarcosuchus brood reached maturity and have been bred, my Rock Drakes hatched and I started exploring Fjordur.

After powering through the Rockwell battle on Aberration last night[1], I’ve started on the next Story Map DLC: Extinction. I’ve started building a base which will be a very large one. I’ll then start transferring everything from my other bases there.

Spent more time on Extinction, as well as a little time on the Island where I bred my Mantises. Currently working on base-building on Extinction. My current priority is my crafting area.

Continued base-building on Extinction tonight. I’ve got part of my crafting station built including stacks of dedicated storage containers for crafting materials. Now, I’ve started ferrying material between Arks so that I can then organize the stacks in alphabetical order.

Been working more on my Extinction base. I’ve got my crafting materials stored in proper alphabetical order and have gotten a start on my hatchery/breeding area.

Continuing to move stuff over to the Extinction map. Unfortunately, I’ve had a couple game crashes. To move my character between the different Arks, I use a Tek Transmitter. I upload my character to the transmitter, then create a new character and log off, and then load a different map. Every time I create a new character, I’m presented with that map’s opening cinematic which I skip. The last couple times I’ve done that, the game has crashed (once when leaving Extiction and once when leaving the Island). Getting back on Extinction, I found that that forges and ceilings I’d built were gone which was frustrating, though fortunate in a way because the industrial forge I built wouldn’t have fit. I just really hope I haven’t lost any tames that I ferried over.

Slowly building up my Extinction base. Ferried another batch of resources and tames from the Island, and then continued construction.

Continuing to build my base. Ferried some more tames over. Working on the hatchery section. No new pictures yet, sorry.
