David Tennant's 10th Doctor returns to Big Finish in 2027

Especially as they were at a convention the other week with about 1000 Doctor Who fans, many of them had never heard of Big Finish, and they decided to wait until the day after to announce this :man_facepalming:t2:

I get why the BBC needs to announce stuff like that ahead of time because they film outside, but BF can wait. No one is camping outside their recording studio to watch for these things…

That’s exactly what you think!

The famous Big Finish car park is where everyone lurks.

Speak for yourself! I have a nice tree ive set up camp in, I can give you an exclusive that I even spotted the ghost of William Hartnell going in to record the other day!

Was his ghost tempted by tales of the famous Big Finish Lunch?

Understandable sentiment, but worth saying that if they’re beginning to record a lot of those this far in advance, they probably had to announce, because the last thing the BBC would’ve wanted is for someone on the guest cast to accidentally go ā€˜Oh, yeah, I’ve been recording a Doctor Who thing with David Tennant’, and have the papers talking about it as a leak. That’s a thing. You don’t need to worry about anyone just vaguely telling their mates they’ve done something with Davison or McGann or Miles the impressionist for 11… but the actual Tenth Doctor himself? Yeah, that’d have gone round gossipy actor circles. Especially when you’re recording a year and a half ahead. Someone’s bound to forget it’s not out yet. I’m sure that happened with one of the Master performers with Masterful, for instance.

Well, it was almost certainly a licensor decision when the press release goes out, and I doubt the BBC’s going to shift an agreed embargo with the papers a day earlier just for a convention. Were Nick and Jason hinting at an announcement after the weekend?

I mean both Dark Gallifrey and Rutans vs Sontarans were announced at conventions so its not unprecedented.

If Tyler shows up as part of Rani’s supporting cast again, I would love that.

Gallifrey One’s exceptional AIUI due to some of the long-running ties the BBC has had to the organisers there. They plan announcements for that months and months in advance like with Big Finish Day, though I don’t believe this will necessarily continue to be the way of things with its successor.

Sleepy me just learned of this news and I am very excited for this. It feels like a glimmer of hope that Big Finish has these big plans given how waylaid things are in the TV world.

Doesn’t feel like there’s a ton announced for next year but I am hugely excited for the 10DAs.

If the first 3 stories are Rani Chandra as the companion. Do you think it going to be a trend of getting different companions every few episodes? Given the ā€˜I don’t want to go… alone.’ line, implies that may be the theme of this set.

Like each trilogy is a different companion maybe? If so, who else would you like to see? More SJA people? Gabby and Cindy? An original character? A classic companion?

So excited for the Graske trilogy! Bout time he had his time to shine!

I’m actually thinking that there might be a 10 and Rose trilogy (or maybe more) since Tennant and Billie Piper both had to pull out of an event at the same time, unless they did some filming for the Satan Pit film release

I hope we get a 10th and Andy trilogy. A sequel to Stranded. It’s my biggest wish for BF right now.

This sounds so fun! Andy in the TARDIS would be a blast. I haven’t listened to Stranded yet but I really want to. I just need to do Ravenous first.

I think 10 and Gwen is perhaps more likely personally if Eve Myles is up for recording some Big Finish again. Some interesting stuff you could do there too what with Gwen’s speech in Children Of Earth about how she believed the Doctor didn’t turn up to help with the 456 because he was ashamed.

After Stranded, I would love a Ten and Andy trilogy, I think he had a great dynamic with Eight and it would be interesting to pair him with a similar but different Doctor, especially one who now knows the organisation he works for. Ianto would be the other option I’d particularly love to see, he’s probably the most prominent of the Torchwood cast in terms of continuing involvement with Big Finish and the Whoniverse and consequently the most immediate parallel with Rani from SJA. To be honest though, any Torchwood crossover would be super intriguing, there’s a lot of exciting stuff you could do there with Ten specifically in the aftermath of The Christmas Invasion, Doomsday and The Stolen Earth/Journey’s End.

If I were doing three more trilogies each with a different companion figure/figures, I’d go Ten + Torchwood (Andy, Ianto or other, as above), Ten + classic companions (Susan, Romana and Adric - really turn the screws emotionally) and then Ten + post-Journey’s End Martha to finish off (although that sadly doesn’t seem that likely). I’ll be interested to see what actually ends up happening with the other nine releases and if they do have overarching themes or they’re more separate.

10 and Romana would be adorable.

Tennant had such a big crush on Lalla Ward when he was younger. Those behind-the-scenes would be very cute.
