Cyclone Alfred

Hey all you Australian Whovians! Just a guy from Queensland wanting to check in on you all as we face down Cyclone Alfred. It’s a bit of a shock to get this quite literally once in a lifetime weather event but it is what it is.

My partner and I are currently safe, we’re prepared we have food and water to last until it’s over including food we can eat if the power goes out and most importantly we have toilet paper, we’ve secured our outdoor plants inside including the table and chairs (I’m actually surprised how empty the backyard is excluding the recycle bin filled with water but ya know no room in the garage for it) so now all we have to do is hunker down and hope for the best.

Hope that the other neighbours have secured their outdoor furniture and plants and are safe as well and unsecured items won’t become missiles that damage my home, that the roof won’t rip off or leak, that the water level doesn’t rise high enough to flood my home.

Yeah there’s a lot of stress here hey QLDers or NSWers

Hope you’re okay - surprisingly I haven’t seen anything about this on the news but then our channels are full of Trump (and his pathetic supporters) being an arsehole and a bully to anyone he fancies and the rest of the world trying to desperately keep us from going to hell in a handcart!

I have relatives in and around Brisbane so I hope they are all as well prepared as you seem to be, @starlitmeadows. Best of luck to you, keep safe and let’s hope it’s not as bad as predicted.

Hope you and everyone else affected are safe! I also wasn’t aware of this, but it sounds absolutely terrifying. Would not want to experience such weather myself. But it’s great that you’re prepared! Let’s hope you get through it unscathed :hugs::hugs:

Glad to hear you’re safe and prepared, this cyclone is just so rude, telling us he’ll be here on Thursday then just not showing up, how inconsiderate! Thankfully, I’m lucky enough to live in a part of Brisbane that won’t be hit by flooding, so I haven’t been too stressed, but the eerie calm is unnerving, I guess this is what they mean by the calm before the storm.

How many people did you have to punch out to get your hands on such a rare and precious commodity? :joy: I wish you a safe cyclone fellow Queenslander

He’s just the worst he’s like the Meddling Monk in that way :joy: thank god you’re in a safe enough area, I’m hoping that I won’t be too badly impacted :crossed_fingers:t2: my partner said we may flood but we’ll have to see.

It’s currently gusty here on the Gold Coast not sure how it is in Brissy hoping you’re alright :hugs:

We found a Woolies that wasn’t badly hit by panic buyers so we’re pretty lucky

The cyclone ended up downgrading by the time it hit us up here in Brisbane, north side is pretty clean but the south side got hit with widespread power outages, but it seems damage was kept a minimum here so far. We are about to get hit with a bunch of rain so flooding is still a risk, but thankfully everyone already prepared, can you believe there are people who are upset they cyclone wasn’t worst? Honestly :triumph:

I took a peek down at the Goldie to see how things are and saw you guys have widespread power outages, hopefully that was the extent of the damage and you’re all safe. We’ll have to whip Energex into getting power but up for you guys ASAP . It looks like you guys are in for some absolutely massive rain fall so stay safe and stay dry

Yeah im one of the lucky few who haven’t had our power out despite nearly everyone around us getting hit. Main concern is down south where there’s currently flooding which will likely get worse to similar levels to the 2022 floods (rip Lismore)

I hope this doesn’t come across as insensitive but I initially interpreted the title of this thread as the name of a wacky Doctor Who character I hadn’t heard of.

Hope you, your loved ones, and all the Australians here are okay and safe! This looks scary :frowning:

He really took his sweet time ey. Sputtered out to a tropical low before hitting the mainland. Anticlimactic much

It’s ok he got his revenge on us by subjecting us to the typical British day, dreary and wet

Yeah we’ve been pretty lucky to not have a cyclone anymore but the system has been an absolute pain in the arse :joy: I’ve not lost power unlike thousands around me. My partner and I went to the shops and there’s been some damage but for the most part the areas okay a bit of flooding near the shops but we’re doing alright.

Poor Lismore has been absolutely through the wringer again I saw a news report of a woman who’s lost her home twice now in this flood and the other one :broken_heart::sob:

At this point they need to relocate the town centre to somewhere higher like Lismore Heights (and this was proposed years ago but never happened) because it’s just inevitable they’re going to continue to get flooded every couple of years

I’ll admit, I thought it might’ve been something on Big Finish initially myself…
