Consolidating Characters and Monsters

Part of the trouble is that sometimes mythical/legendary characters are real in the Doctor Who universe. Sometimes it varies depending on the episode, too…

Let’s just go for a simple “Things That Are Alive” and “Things That Are Unalive” and call it a day!

But but what if the Doctor then meets Tolkien while he is writing the Hobbit? Is Gandalf then a Fictional^2 Character?

(The Doctor IS probably Gandalf)

A tag that is: “Originated outside of the Whoniverse”?

RIVER: I hate good wizards in fairy tales. They always turn out to be him.

Honestly, trouble there is that just because a character is dead doesn’t necessarily stop them from moving around onscreen…

“Things That Are Unalive, But Possessed” then?

It’s not always easy to determine if they are dead or not…

Even more now when she also is Ms Flood.

And she’s a historical character, too.

Just to add some more ideas, I’ve had a look at my ‘old playground,’ the German Perry Rhodan fan wiki.: Perrypedia:Liste aller Kategorien – Perrypedia
There Daleks, Silurians, and similar beings would be categorized as ‘Völker.’ However, none of the standard English translations (nations, peoples) quite captures the same meaning, i think? A more fitting, albeit non-standard, translation might be the already discussed ‘species.’
Additionally, robots (‘Roboter’) and entities (‘Entitäten’) are separate categories parallel to species (‘Völker’) with robots being a sub-category of technology.
Reflecting on it, I’m beginning to recall the endless discussions we had about which categories are fitting. Perhaps it’s just a topic that’s impossible to get perfect.

And Bill.

And Amy and Rory sort of.

Bloody Moffat and his inability to actually ever kill a character off (and to constantly repeat his companion depatures with only a slight variation).

There is no “right way” to say this without sounding like a sociopath, but I was kind of delighted by the whole Bill getting shot and turned into a Cyberman situation and was really disappointed with how it was reversed in the end. Show some consequences of this perilous life for once would you! :grimacing::grin:

Well, Moffat did tell us with his very first story for the show that he likes it when, just this once, everybody lives! So, his fear of death shouldn’t come as a surprise
