We will start year 3 in the Comic Club and I have some questions about the best order to do it. For years 1 and 2, we have done every Doctor first and then the summer event. But in year 3, the summer event is in the middle of the year. My question to people who have read it before: Is it better to have the event in the middle (that is how I have planned it) or is the event not dependent on what happens in the Doctors, and it is better to do the event last?
The reason that I ask is mostly because of the Twelfth Doctor, who seems to have a big arc during the whole year. This is his three collections:
Time Trials: The Terror Beneath
Time Trials: The Wolves of Winter
Time Trials: A Confusion of Angels
If we do it according to the plan, the order will be:
Time Trials: The Terror Beneath
Time Trials: The Wolves of Winter
A book with 9
The Lost Dimension: Book One
The Lost Dimension: Book Two
A book with 10
A book with 11
Time Trials: A Confusion of Angels
I’m waaaaayyy behind in Comic Club but my gut says keep the 12 ones together. I know I’ve lost the threads of some of the arcs a bit by jumping from Doctor to Doctor - although that could also be because I am often leaving a few weeks between reading them.
Should we do it as years 1 and 2 then and do:
Everything with 10
Everything with 11
Everything with 12
Everything with 9
Event
Even if the event might effect the last collection of each Doctor?
Ten and Eleven also has a conecting name for there years 3:
Ten:
Facing Fate: Breakfast at Tyranny’s
Facing Fate: Vortex Butterflies
Facing Fate: The Good Companion
Eleven:
The Sapling: Growth
The Sapling: Roots
The Sapling: Branches
I found this on Reddit:
Titan Year Three
Year Three is a little different, in that the summer event, The Lost Dimension, takes place in the middle of the three main series. The Tenth Doctor, The Eleventh Doctor, and The Twelfth Doctor each have a crossover issue in the middle of their regular runs with The Lost Dimension, so I’d recommend reading the preceding stories (as outlined below), then reading The Lost Dimension, then finishing off the three Year Threes.
- The Tenth Doctor: Year Three
- Breakfast at Tyranny’s
- Sharper Than a Serpent’s Tooth
- Revolving Doors
- Vortex Butterflies
- The Eleventh Doctor: Year Three
- Remembrance
- The Scream
- The Tragical History Tour
- Time of the Ood
- The Memory Feast
- Fooled
- Strange Loops
- The Twelfth Doctor: Year Three
- Beneath the Waves
- The Boy With the Displaced Smile
- The Wolves of Winter
- The Ninth Doctor
- Slaver’s Song
- Sin-Eaters
- Secret Agent Man
- The Bidding War
- The Lost Dimension (Summer event series)
- The Tenth Doctor: Year Three (continued)
- The Good Companion
- The Eleventh Doctor: Year Three (continued)
- Hungry Thirsty Roots
- The Twelfth Doctor: Year Three (continued)
- The Great Shopping Bill
- A Confusion of Angels
So essentially, it recommends doing the first Tenth, Eleventh and Twelfth as well as the only Ninth colelctions before the event, then the event and then finally the last collections for Ten, Eleven and Twelve.
That is the post that I made the original plan from. But now when I was going to make drafts for the topics I started to think what the best part of doing it was.
That one even splits the collections but I dont want to do that.
I haven’t read them so I don’t know the best order to read them. Hopefully somone here knows how to do it best!
Asked in the Discord as well
I think that we have two options:
Option 1:
Doctor | Collection |
---|---|
Tenth Doctor - Year Three | Facing Fate: Breakfast at Tyranny’s |
Tenth Doctor - Year Three | Facing Fate: Vortex Butterflies |
Eleventh Doctor - Year Three | The Sapling: Growth |
Eleventh Doctor - Year Three | The Sapling: Roots |
The Twelfth Doctor - Year Three | Time Trials: The Terror Beneath |
The Twelfth Doctor - Year Three | Time Trials: The Wolves of Winter |
The Ninth Doctor - Ongoing | Sin Eaters |
Summer Event #3 | The Lost Dimension: Book One |
Summer Event #3 | The Lost Dimension: Book Two |
Tenth Doctor - Year Three | Facing Fate: The Good Companion |
Eleventh Doctor - Year Three | The Sapling: Branches |
The Twelfth Doctor - Year Three | Time Trials: A Confusion of Angels |
Option 2:
Doctor | Collection |
---|---|
Tenth Doctor - Year Three | Facing Fate: Breakfast at Tyranny’s |
Tenth Doctor - Year Three | Facing Fate: Vortex Butterflies |
Tenth Doctor - Year Three | Facing Fate: The Good Companion |
Eleventh Doctor - Year Three | The Sapling: Growth |
Eleventh Doctor - Year Three | The Sapling: Roots |
Eleventh Doctor - Year Three | The Sapling: Branches |
The Twelfth Doctor - Year Three | Time Trials: The Terror Beneath |
The Twelfth Doctor - Year Three | Time Trials: The Wolves of Winter |
The Twelfth Doctor - Year Three | Time Trials: A Confusion of Angels |
The Ninth Doctor - Ongoing | Sin Eaters |
Summer Event #3 | The Lost Dimension: Book One |
Summer Event #3 | The Lost Dimension: Book Two |
What option do you want?
- Option 1 - Event in the middle
- Option 1 - Event in the end
Okay so, here’s what I think (I read these all a bit out of order but I skimmed over them just now):
Ten and Eleven both, we should definitely do in one block each, don’t split these, they have relatively strong arcs. I don’t think it matters if we do these before or after the event though, there’ll be a little timey-wimeyness either way but nothing too confusing.
Nine we should do before the event, as there is a brief appearance of a companion from there in the event.
Twelve doesn’t actually have a strong arc, I think you can split these at any point. He is with Bill in both the event and the second and third volume of year three, so I think it might be good to do his before the event, but it isn’t necessary, season 10 gives enough context either way.
Another thing though, are we planning to read any of the classic doctor volumes in the comic club too? Because I enjoyed them very much. And Eight and his companion from that volume have a brief appearance in the Lost Dimension, so it might be nice to read that one before
Great then we will do the event at the end!
My plan was to do all of them after year 3. Should we add Eight before the event?
My thinking after @Jae comment is that we are going to do year 3 like this:
Date | Doctor | Collection |
---|---|---|
2025-03-26 | Tenth Doctor - Year Three | Facing Fate: Breakfast at Tyranny’s |
2025-04-09 | Tenth Doctor - Year Three | Facing Fate: Vortex Butterflies |
2025-04-23 | Tenth Doctor - Year Three | Facing Fate: The Good Companion |
2025-05-07 | Eleventh Doctor - Year Three | The Sapling: Growth |
2025-05-21 | Eleventh Doctor - Year Three | The Sapling: Roots |
2025-06-04 | Eleventh Doctor - Year Three | The Sapling: Branches |
2025-06-18 | The Twelfth Doctor - Year Three | Time Trials: The Terror Beneath |
2025-07-02 | The Twelfth Doctor - Year Three | Time Trials: The Wolves of Winter |
2025-07-16 | The Twelfth Doctor - Year Three | Time Trials: A Confusion of Angels |
2025-07-30 | The Ninth Doctor - Ongoing | Sin Eaters |
2025-08-13 | The Eighth Doctor - Mini Series | The Eighth Doctor: A Matter of Life and Death |
2025-08-27 | Summer Event #3 | The Lost Dimension: Book One |
2025-09-10 | Summer Event #3 | The Lost Dimension: Book Two |
I think that’s a great order!
What are your thoughts @MrColdStream ? You voted for the other option
Well, I voted before @Jae’s comment, but now that I’ve read it, I have to agree with them! That order sounds nice, and we finally get to read some Eight
Then I will plan it like this. Sorry to @DarthGallifrey and @JayPea that makes all the plans and backlogs and have to change stuff now
My planning Google spreadsheet is now updated. @DarthGallifrey and @JayPea
I also moved Ghost Stories. It feels more natural to do all the classic doctors in a row. Also added the 15th doctor story at the end.
I have created and scheduled all the topics for Year 3 of Titan Comics. Thanks for all the help.
