Finished the Ruby/Sapphire arc of Pokémon Adventures again a few nights ago and it’s great, though I wish Sapphire had more agency in the finale.
Been on the Fire Red/Leaf Green arc, though after I finish this volume it’ll be on a looooong pause until I can buy the next collector’s edition

Sapphire peaks at Fortree City and just loses a lot of relevance after that. One of the few problems I had in my rereading too. The other is that when you get older, the team aqua vs team magma conflict is just dumb. Very very dumb. But I can buy the villains being dumb.
The real problem is how pathetic the gym leaders are fighting over it too.
Wynona and Wallace tho? Peak hot bi queen and king. They knew what they were doing. Power couple!

I don’t mind the conflict being dumb cause it is in the games. But I definitely agree on your other points
Definitely the best art since Mato left thus far for sure though, and it’s still a fun read

I paused on RS on my least reread too, I should rerestart it again. Last time I came with a greater appreciation of Yellow and GSC (I just love the ending of that one. The huuuuuge stadium tornament is epic and it just gets better when it all comes down. That moment when everyone sends their pokemon through Bill to calm down Ho-Oh and Lugia just gets me emotional. I legit cried.).
Still love RS, but third in the four arcs I reread for my ranking.

Yellow arc will forever be my #1!
Interested to see how I feel about Emerald when I get to it, I always hated him as a character and wished it was Wally instead so I’ll see if maybe as an adult I’ll either appreciate him more or appreciate the arc more in spite of him

For that same reason I avoided Emerald like the plague and never actually read it when I was younger. What do you mean you invented this ugly gremlin instead of just using Wally?
I’ll probably will be a lot more forgiving when I get there tho.

Oh there is the other problem too. Y’know, that one. I do wish the manga had the courage to let Norman, Marge and Steven stay dead. Celebi why did you have to offer yourself as a reset button? GET A JOB.

Ruby himself is a moral grey character that can go to extremes and be really selfish so I can see why he forgives his dad, but I wish he at least kicked his butt first. Ruby, you have FULL AUTHORISATION to throw your dad from a cliff.

I also wish Sapphire didn’t act as if she won every badge fair and square when she didn’t lol
Do love their romance and backstory though, and do enjoy the arc overall. Both protagonists are great fun

She also should’ve kicked Ruby’s butt a lil more but I’ll forgive her because they didn’t have much time.

Yeah it’s a shame that the manga has already been beholden to deadlines based around game releases

I find it so cute that they made each other gayer. The greatest romance ever.
Oh, and the deadlines get worse as time goes. Way, way worse. With the current 3 year apart releases? It’s a nightmare.

Thanks to @Jae I have read Operation Volcano today - I am not a big comics reader and this has kind of reminded me why (the medium in general just doesn’t work well for me) but I did enjoy this one. I mean look at this panel!! I’m an aircraft mechanic and a lesbian, it’s like this was drawn for me
I mean look at her! I love herrr
anyway, more coherent review below:
And I’ll leave you with Rachel’s little hat because it just made me go

Can someone help identify where this panel is from? The artist (Russ Leach) said it has something to do with DWM Doomsday?

I own this exact comic!
So for the Doom’s Day multimedia event, Doctor Who Magazine released a four story comic collection called Four Hours of Doom’s Day.
The Sixth Doctor is in the second comic in that, called The Plastic Population.
If you have any more questions about it, feel free to ask me!

Does anyone know if the backup story “A Rose by any other name” is in any of the titan collections?

AFAIK, most probably not, the backups are rarely reprinted in the collections.
