Books General Discussion

As we have other general discussion threads, thought it’d be good to have one for books, and can be used to share general news tidbits as well! Could maybe pin this?

Where to begin, where to begin…?

So many books, so little time.

Love the topic @Jamie! I have periods where I read a lot, and then it can go months with no reading at all. I am in a reading period now, and it is such a different medium. The fact that it forces you to focus on only one thing makes it so rewarding.

I really should read more. I always enjoy it when I do. But find it so hard to find the time, also I need my environment to be silent when I read

I have started listening to film music when I read in public spaces. It works for me.

One thing that has improved my reading a lot lately is that I changed the font on my e-reader to OpenDyslexic, which makes it look like a children’s book, but it is also making it much easier to read, especially when I am tired.

I’m currently stuck in the Frankenstein one. Been reading about 3 books a month, but lost a lot of momentum with recent work developments. The mental stress is making it hard to go to that happy place even when I have the time, which happens less since I have to go to the office more.

Bummer, as books have been arriving recently. I now have 5 or 6 piled up awaiting my attention.

Still, sometime soon I’ll likely be either on vacation or unemployed, so maybe I’ll go through a few in rapid succession.

I’m surprised we never had one already!

EDIT: I’m moving the part about what I’m currently reading to the correct thread!

We do have a non-DW variation of the “What are you currently reading” thread: What (else) Are You Reading? - Non-DW.

Oooh this is the thread I was thinking of (I swore I had even posted in that one, but I got confused when I saw this lol); I guess I got this and that muddled up due to my cold

Thanks!

Do we have a thread for “Why the heck are you reading something other than DW?”?

Because unfortunately there’s more to life than just Doctor Who?

May be of interest to some here:

‘Back then, no one at the BBC wanted much to do with Doctor Who. So, there was no one looking over my shoulder. No one sticking their oar in, saying ‘You can’t do that…!’

Such freedom! All taken for granted at the time, of course. I asked authors what they wanted to do, and they told me and from that first chat we had a giddy time working it out and bringing it all into being.’

Samantha Jones… Faction Paradox… the Amnesiac Doctor… Sabbath… Iris Wildthyme… Compassion… President Romana…

Come with us, back to 1998, to the decadent fin-de-siecle – where there’s a marvellous party and further new adventures still going on… Meet old friends and new in this treasury of tales celebrating the most fun and joyful of all the Doctors Who.

With an introduction from range supremo Steve Cole and twenty new stories, PARTY LIKE IT’S 1998 is a welcome return to the glory days of the last Wilderness Years, when books told the ongoing story of our favourite Time Lord!
