I just finished the book, and it was a fun, quick read. The characters were great, and while it wasn’t anything extraordinary, it was definitely enjoyable.
Finally, a Book in this Club, which I have read! (I will join the other Threads when I get around to reading all the other Books, I promise )
This was my first and only Entry in the NSA and I must admit not a bad one at all. I like most Things Jaqueline Rayner wrote, so it’s not surprising I would enjoy this one (I mainly picked this one up because a) Martha b) Dodo in the Title) and I wasn’t disappointed. I got what I expected, a fun solid Story with some Fun Prose here and there, it’s honestly a nice Break reading this in-between some Wilderness Books honestly (which is no dig against any of them, a lot of them, I do genuinely love). But yeah this was a fun Time!
I’ve started reading and really enjoying it so far. Rayner’s writing just flies off the page, and she has a good understanding of the characters and both Classic and New Who. I find the setting very intriguing as well.
I’ve read this pretty recently but it seems I neglected to review it! I’ll have to rectify that at some point. I did enjoy this one and enjoyed the setting of the museum. The plot is fairly straightforward although I wasn’t hugely convinced by the scenes on Earth with dinosaurs and the like (thinking about it, although I didn’t at the time, those scenes seem a bit like Primeval, the ITV reaction to modern Doctor Who’s success). Rayner writes well for 10 and Martha though.
Well, Jacqueline Rayner delivers again! This is a fun, fast-paced and charming adventure with strong themes and content that actually educated me! It’s a bit silly in places, but I was never bored or frustrated with it.
The Last Dodo is a highly entertaining Doctor Who novel that makes full use of its engaging premise, fast-paced plot, and strong character work. While the supporting cast could be fleshed out more, and some plot elements resolve a bit too quickly, the story remains gripping throughout. Rayner balances humour, action, and deeper themes effectively, crafting a tale that is both fun and thought-provoking. With prehistoric beasts running loose in modern-day Earth, an ethical dilemma at its core, and a museum reminiscent of The Space Museum, this is a great pick for fans of Doctor Who looking for an adventure with a twist.
I had forgotten this book! Think I got it from my school library back in the day, enjoyable enough, 7/10, interesting enough concept, a lot of the NSAs had a vibe of some of the less well known sci fi books my mother gave me from her own childhood
Totally forgot to reply to this. This isn’t my absolute favorite NSA, but it’s one I really enjoyed! Probably 7/10 for me. Over spring break I need to go through and finally rate/review all the books I’ve read.
I’m replying to this really late, but I’m still commenting because I read it because of this book club. The Last Dodo was a 7/10 for me; it’s not one of my favorite NSAs (although I haven’t read most of them), but I think the museum of extinct species is a very interesting concept!
Oh, don’t worry, there is no “really late” with any of the Clubs (and frankly with any-most Threads on the Forum). You can reply to any of them, anytime!
