Biggest rise/fall in quality between stories

Now that’s just ragebait.

Right?

Right?!?

Wilf is a treasure.

As for dips in quality, I’m about to reach my first one in my rewatch - from the one-two punch of The Keys of Marinus and The Aztecs to a story I wish I liked more, The Sensorites. The drop in quality isn’t even that drastic, but for me, it’s noticeable.

He is definitely the best part of that movie

A good performer can elevate the role beyond what is written. Y’know, like Graham Crowden in Horns Of Nimon. /hj

No. She is fine, but I don’t see why she is so special.

Yes and yes.

Next question.

Seriously, though, his performance as Wilf is full of joy and compassion and manages to convey a feeling of ‘everyone’s Grandad’. Just witness his little dance at the end of Partners in Crime - sheer bliss.

Romana is the specialest character of all time <3 She kills herself for fun, she’s the world’s first ethical dictator, what’s not to like?

That description makes her sound so much more fun than she is :joy:

I dispute! Indeed I will dispute!
He’s a guest star, not a companion :winking_face_with_tongue:
Indisputable my foot…

If it is even possible for Adam Mitchell to be considered a companion, then Wilf is one.

To many words:
He’s a star companion :winking_face_with_tongue:

Since I didn’t watch Doctor Who in chronological order when watching it for the first time growing up (I watched either whatever episode my parents or brother wanted to show me or one that I read the description of and thought sounded interesting; I have no idea why I did it like that), and I think that’s why I like some less well-liked episodes. I didn’t have the experience of watching a great episode one week, and watching a less great episode the next week, and having the shift in quality cloud my judgement. Plenty of episodes aren’t bad episodes (or at least not as bad as most people make them out to be); they just happen to come right after a much better episode. Just my two cents.

And subsequently Kromon into Natural History of Fear, a rise back into excellent stuff

I love how I can always bait responses here :star_struck:

Just War → Dragon’s Wrath was a pretty insane fall in quality! (there was a special released inbetween them but in terms of the regular series)

Was about to say that, sticking Creed of the Kromon between Scherzo and The Natural History of Fear is just bullying.

Literally the first 3 parts of Forty-Five and then The Word Lord, such a mad fluctuation in a 4 story release

That section of the MR is such a trip, because 8 comes off 3 consecutive bangers (Neverland, Zagreus, and Scherzo, one of which I consider the single greatest DW story) then goes into 1-3 out of 10 territory with Kromon, and immediately goes into yet another all-time great with Natural History

It’s an even bumpier road for me because I very much do not like Zagreus (it’s a divisive one I know) so that era’s a rollercoaster.

This is key I think. Many stories deserve to be watched in isolation and more often than not their good qualities become more obvious.
