Biggest rise/fall in quality between stories

I don’t think the messaging in that episode is intentional, but it’s really oof. Unfortunately, Capaldi can’t have all bangers. At least the premise of the episode is interesting.

I hated that “kneel” scene , it felt weird

Yeah, you can’t really predict the type of events that lead to something like “The Ultimate Foe” happening sometimes…

Legend of Ruby Sunday my beloved :star_struck: Abysmal of Death…

The actual answer is Scherzo to Creed of the Kromon though

Spyfall Part 1 into Part 2 was my first through as well, but looking at my ratings to give a few more for me personally (not all the same level of jump, but all of these are, for me personally, 8+/10 to a 5-/10):

  • It Takes You Away into The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos
  • Zygon Inversion into Sleep No More
  • Time Heist into The Caretaker
  • The God Complex into Closing Time
  • A Day in the Death into Something Borrowed
  • Dalek into The Long Game

But of course, if you want the biggest fall:

  • Ghosts of Winterborne into When To Die

I love Spyfall Part 1, and while Part 2 does have some great moments, the Eiffel Tower scene is just awful and really ruins it.

It felt like one of those edgy fanfictions that almost every fandom have😭

I don’t have any major hate for Creed Of The Kromon… but yeesh, the differences in how Charley is treated between those stories is night and day.

I didn’t notice the messaging until it was mentioned on the forum. I just couldn’t get into the episode. Interesting premise but it was executed poorly.

I started to listen 8 and Charley audios recently , I’m worried now🙂

It’s literally my least favourite Doctor Who story  In big part due to how she’s treated

But I wonder still about the term ‘weaker script’ because that’s still subjective.

And you see this is where I can never quite get on board with fan discourse. Lots of stories are apparently ‘ruined’ by single scenes - Love & Monsters; The Idiot’s Lantern; Spyfall 2 - but I think it ultimately depends on how ‘offended’ you are by said scene. None of those scenes rankle me as much as they do some people so they don’t affect my enjoyment of those episodes.

That’s fair. I can’t think of many episodes that are ruined by certain scenes, but this one really irks me. So out of character for the Doctor nad perhaps Chibnall didn’t intend it to come across that way but christ when its pointed out to you…

I feel a similar way with some of the monsters. I’ve heard mentions in the wild about not being able to get into Father’s Day or Inferno or Androzani because they can’t take the requisite monster seriously. I don’t really agree, and kind of treat the attitude that episodes must have some kind of weird creature in them as just a quirk of the show. Once again, it’s just a matter of taste and opinion.

And that’s just odd to me because they, like single scenes, are such a small part of the whole that to dismiss an entire story on that basis just doesn’t really make sense. Inferno, in particular, is so much more than a bit of dodgy hairy make up.

I’ve been in many a situation where specific scenes in TV shows and movies just sour me on the rest of it, usually if it’s a big moment that is built up to throughout. That can make what leads up to it feel worse in retrospect. Just as a random example, I absolutely hate the movie Lights Out because of its ending. It was a matter of me being offended, certainly, but it just derailed what seemed like a reasonable approach to its core topic up to that point.

I was tempted to go with Rogue to The Legend of Ruby Sunday for biggest fall, but I’ve realised I actually think there’s a bigger one;

Utopia to The Sound of Drums.

Caves to Twin is a good example though and actually gives my choice a run for its money. Couple more quite big but not as big ones; A Good Man Goes to War to Let’s Kill Hitler and The God Complex to Closing Time.

Biggest rise? Strangely, that’s a trickier question for me. I always feel the dips are far more pronounced and but I think I’d go for The Celestial Toymaker to The Gunfighters, The Space Pirates to The War Games (although I like The Space Pirates a bit more than most) or Arc of Infinity to Snakedance. 2005+ is trickier but…

Maybe The Idiot’s Lantern to The Satan Pit? Planet of the Dead to Waters of Mars? Nightmare in Silver to Name of the Doctor?
