Interesting point. I suppose the events at the start of Dark Water, as with most of time, is in flux, “anything can happen” - Clara happened to ring Danny which caused him to be distracted and thus get run over. Perhaps the events of Listen and beyond affected her relationship such that she called him then, whereas prior to meeting Orson, she wouldn’t have at that exact moment. It wasn’t a pre-determined moment, basically.
The idea that Missy somehow concocted Danny’s death seems at odds with the sudden, unexpected, “boring”, nature of his death.
For your first plothole, the Doctor does mention that I think she was supposed to be in power for 3 terms (so 15 years), as she’s inspired by Tony Blair as a character iirc.
The Golden Age would’ve lasted until 2020.
The consequences are therefore Harold Saxon, and the PM in COE, and any further PMs which I believe are more inspired by the Conservatives. Anything up until 2020, maybe even encompassing COVID as well. Imo, as Harriet was a political realist, also her being out of power would mean Torchwood collapsed (being a realist organisation), whereas I think in her Golden Age, she would’ve worked closely with Torchwood London. Morally grey ftw lol.
There are a lot of big plot holes in Doctor Who. Lots of giant pits, and wormholes through time and space, and sometimes even black holes… Doctor Who plots are full of ‘em.
Heaven sent: If time doesn’t work different outside of the confession dial none of the Time Lords last seen before this episode and not one sister regenerated through billions of years.
A plot hole I can’t accept is the unexplained evolution (or change) of the Weeping Angels ability from Blink to the Angels Take Manhattan and later. Amys and Rorys Angel moves while being seen by the Doctor and River, the Angels in Manhattan have way to much abilities compared to Blink…
But Gallifrey is stuck at the end of the universe after it is saved, which is the point at which the Doctor escapes the dial. It’s not billions of years after the point we last saw Gallifrey in The Day of the Doctor, it’s billions of years after 2015 or so (granted, it is inconsistent with Utopia saying that was a hundred trillion years in the future, but that’s beside the point, and a continuity error also isn’t a plot hole), at which point it’s eventually stuck in the desert on Gallifrey, remember, the dial didn’t time travel to get there, it took the long way round. So they haven’t lived that much longer since TDOTD, there’s no reason to suspect that they’d have regenerated that much. Also, the Sisterhood of Karn doesn’t regenerate, they use the Elixir of Life to sustain themselves, they’re functionally immortal as long as they have elixir, barring accidents.
Also not a plot hole, just a development you didn’t like. And I don’t think they can see the angel at the time that Rory is taken, and presumably they can’t see the angel through Amy when it takes her (or at least that’s what the intention seems to be from my recollection of the scene, and if it looks like they can see it, that’s just perhaps a goof in the direction).
Is this a plot hole? In the final episode of Series 6, the Eleventh Doctor decides he has gotten too big and erases himself from the universe, so no one knows who he is.
In the first episode of Series 7, by THE SAME WRITER, the Daleks - who all know exactly who he is - call on him for help.
Never is there any follow-up to this erasure, which sure seemed like a big deal in The Wedding of River Song, and had me looking forward to getting back to the Doctor showing up places and having to earn the trust of the locals and stuff, but it appeared to be completely ignored.
From my recollection, in Asylum the Doctor was still in the process of trying to erase himself from things, and he hadn’t gotten to the Daleks yet. But by the end of Asylum, Oswin has him wiped from their databanks. But no, it did sort of end up being an abandoned storyline, probably because Moffat was devoting so much of his time to the 50th by the time Series 7 was in production.
Ah, cool, that’s always been a storyline I’ve been interested in seeing more of. There are a lot of things that could be filled in between The Wedding of River Song and The Time of the Doctor, the next time anything with the Silence and/or 11’s overall storyline is relevant again.
