There we go
I really like comedic stories in Doctor Who,but I like when Doctor Who goes darker so I hope they give them some scary stories.
It really does seem to be the case. He carries himself well and people who know him really seem to think highly of him as a human being. It’s such a shame so many have said (and written) so much bile about him. His era might not have been to everyone’s taste (though so much better than a certain vocal lynch mob would have us believe) but there were some fantastic ideas in there. I loved the Chibnall years. I love the distinct atmosphere and aesthetic sensibilities. I love that he gave us Jodie’s Doctor! He cared (and still cares) about the show. He had genuine vision and more ambition for the show than he is credited with.
Flux is extraordinary in many ways, not least in consideration of the conditions it was filmed under. He seems to be a genuinely decent person. I really hope he loves listening to Thirteen and Yaz as a fan for once. He deserves that. A testament to his efforts.
He got so much hate but he tried new things , tried to show different stories
Tried and succeeded. Like all showrunners, there were some episodes that didn’t quite work as well as the rest, but that’s normal. S11 has a unique feel (plus Demons of the Punjab, which I believe to be truly extraordinary). S12 has some truly outstanding episodes too, and is narratively extremely bold. Flux is hugely underrated. That we got it at all is testament to his work ethic and passion. It isn’t perfect but I love it so much. It’s kind of special.
I absolutely adore Flux! It was brilliant and I’ll never get bored of it
I think Chibnall was alright but Idk why he needed to go full lore with TTC,i personally think that should have been left alone but each to their own.
True.
I liked the era at the time, felt like a breath of fresh air, but the more time passes I like it even more.
I’m not uncritical of course, no era is ever perfect, but I’d quite honestly say I think it’s my favourite post-2005 era. At the time I’d have probably said that while it was good I still preferred the Moffat years. Now, though, the more I look back and miss it I think the Chibnall era is a really lovely chunk of the show.
Not all people may like it of course but I love the concept it’s interesting!
Indeed. I loved it right enough at the time, but am surprised by how much I miss Jodie’s Doctor (and her era). I hope that, with the benefit of hindsight, more and more people will start to see the virtues of Chibnall’s Doctor Who.
Its no secret that the Chibnall era is one of my favourite eras in all of Who. One good thing, he knew when to move on. Both RTD & Moffat stayed to long imho, their themes & tropes had lost their freshness & become boring, predictable & annoying.
I think one of the reasons he got too much hate is because people follow others opinions
I’m with you on this @thirteenswife. And, in truth, I don’t see it as fundamentally different to Cartmel’s approach to the Doctor’s (mysterious) origins and early history.
I like a question mark over the Doctor’s origins (just not all over the Doctor’s outfit). Chibnall did much to highlight that question mark once more.
Just follow my opinions & you can’t go wrong
That’s right! Always follow monkeyshaver!
Me too. The Doctor’s background is still mysterious!
Ironically, the people most prone to following the opinions of others have a frustrating tendency to accuse those of us who know our own minds (and actually, you know, like to think critically) of being “sheeple”. Irony is deep sometimes.
Or that you are trying to be “different”
Equally frustrating. They can’t abide the fact that many people (millions) still tuned in every week because we loved it.
I once wrote a review about the Blu Ray release of Resolution online, just to say how much i enjoyed it. I received abuse and was called a “corporate shill”. All because I dared to write that I enjoyed an episode of a show I love.
People always claim someone is a shill just because they like something the others don’t…
