Big Finish: The Companion Chronicles

So I’ve finished all the individually released Companion Chronicles. I love this range but there are some peaks and troughs as with any long running BF range. Here’s my ratings for the range up to The Mouthless Dead (because I do have a few of the box sets as well).

And here it is a bit more spread out!

Oops - haven’t rated The Apocalypse Mirror (the last one I listened to).

Here’s mine so far. Pretty consistent.

Can anyone fill me in on which of these have framing devices after they’ve stopped travelling (e.g. Frostfire) and which are set when they’re being told (e.g. Mother Russia)?

Here’s a starting point

Post-travels:
The Sara Kingdom trilogy (it’s complicated, you’ll need to listen to the first one for full context)

  • Home Truths
  • The Drowned World
  • The Guardian of the Solar System

The Company arc (Zoe)

  • Echoes of Grey
  • The Memory Cheats
  • The Uncertainty Principle
  • Second Chances

Cool, thanks, but I was more generally referring to all of them, since I’m listening to them with a family member and want to avoid spoilers for what happens to a companion later on.

That might have been useful context for anyone replying (and jbmasta did say there post was a ‘starting point’.

There are a LOT of CCs too and I’m not sure I can remember exactly which ones have a post-TARDIS framing device but these are the ones I can remember.

Post TARDIS framing device:

Frostfire
Helicon Prime
Here There Be Monsters
The Catalyst
Empathy Games
The Time Vampire
Peri and the Piscon Paradox (although that one is complicated)
The War to End All Wars (and the follow up parts which are in the first First Doctor CC box set: The Founding Fathers and The Locked Room).

Those are the obvious ones I can think of at the moment, but I’m sure I’ve missed some as I haven’t listened to some of them for a very long time.

Transit of Venus: I liked this one a lot. Hash Tag Middlesbrough Pride for Captain Cook (yes, I know he was actually pretty awful but Middlesbrough isn’t exactly a wonderful place either :sob:) anyway, yes, this is a really strong story for Ian, and it was a good bus listen

Prisoner’s Dilemma: I NEEEED to relisten to Graceless soooo badly ! The Gallifrey music was somewhat offputting to me but that’s my only complaint, I really liked this one a lot actually, the memory stuff and the way Ace and Zara’s stories twist around each other was all really well done I thought

Resistance: Good!! Polly is a companion I rarely think of but this treated her very well

Magician’s Oath: Average… Started well but gets dull as it goes on tbh

I’ve got this one signed by the late Richard Franklin.

He’s giving a great performance to be fair! The story just lost me a bit

Richard certainly liked appearing in other ranges, he’s got two Benny stories (Dragons’ Wrath and Shades of Grey), a Sapphire and Steel and a Tomorrow People off the top of my head.
