Big Finish Podcast Notes and Misc News Roundup Thread

Don’t Fear The Reapers is a song name, so it could mean anything too.

That’s true. However, there is also that one of the episodes in the box set is called ‘Blast from the Past’, which suggests an episode set in a previous time, and from Father’s Day we know the Reapers feed from fixed points in time like Pete’s death being changed.

It’s either one big coincidence, or there’s something regarding time and paradoxes going on with Natalie Gumede’s character Chase.

The song name is don’t fear the reaper but the title is reapers it would be an odd unnecessary change to make unless it’s a pun on the reapers being in the set

Maybe there’s two Grim Reapers because the companions die or someone dies twice?

There are a few developments next year, as the Fourth Doctor Adventures goes down to two releases a year and the Second Doctor Adventures finally goes up to two. Interestingly, the First Doctor isn’t part of this crop. Wondering if they’re simply changing the format or if there are scheduling issues with Noonan. What Big Finish I Was Listening To This Week: Listened to The Indigo Child and The Twilight Enclave over the long weekend, as well as The Thirteenth Doctor Adventures: Aegis, which I’m very sorry to say I was thoroughly bored by. I also listened to Rutans vs Sontarans: Rendition, which I thought was very enjoyable.

General Doctor Who / Non-Big Finish News

News

  • Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann Celebrate 30 Years of the Doctor Who TV Movie | The Whoniverse Show
    • Sylvester wore a similar hat to the Seventh Doctor’s to his audition, and JNT wanted to keep it for the show.
      • Similarly, Sylvester played the spoons at a party and JNT wanted to work that into the show.
    • Since they used the original negatives to remaster the TV Movie and they were also remixing the audio, there were small changes made to the movie in the process. For example, there’s a scene when Grace is looking into the Eye of Harmony where she comments “Doctor, I’m blind!” that could not be heard well in the original mix.
    • Variant covers revealed for Doctor Who: Circuit Breaker #1 and #2 from Titan Comics, due out 8 July and 5 August, respectively
    • Cover reveal for BBC audio’s Circuit Breaker: The Deadliest Weapon

The Rumor Mill

  • The Sun is reporting that the Christmas special will be pushed back to Easter. Several outlets have picked this story up and the BBC have declined to comment. The rumor reports that the delay is down to not being able to find an actor to carry on the role of the Doctor from the special into the next series, rather than any issue related to the writing/production of the Christmas special itself.

Wait… How is 4DA S14 Vol.1 “16A”? I’m not getting it

Where have you got “S14” from there?

Oh crap. Typo :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

But I still don’t get why 16"A". What does that “A” stand for?

“A” just refers to Volume “1”.

Volume 2 would be known as “16B”.

I assume 16A and 16B is simpler (or there’s another reason) than “16.1” and “16.2”.

They used to release the Fourth Doctor Adventures both as box sets and individually, which meant individual stories were numbered 8.1, 8.2, 8.3, etc. BUT the box sets obviously couldn’t be numbered the same way or it would get very confusing. So they opted for 8A and 8B. That system continued through the end of the individual releases, and has stuck around for the box set era.

At a guess, a computer will alphabatize A-Z however if they ever released a 16.10 that would not sort correctly.

Or more likely, is “1610” 16-10, 1-1610, or 161-1? Letters make ot clear

I feel it’s kinda obvious A n B v1 v2 like vinyls do side A side B and how cassettes also did that
