Big Finish Ninth Doctor Adventures

Words cannot describe how excited I am for the River Song collaboration

This statement was recently released alongside the new Ninth Doctor box set.

Might be looking too much into this, but the phrase “current Ninth Doctor Adventures range” makes me think there are more stories in the pipeline…

I’m thinking either a series with Nine and Rose.

Or a giant story arc, similar to what Ten got with ‘Dalek Universe’.

I read it as “We’ll take a break for a couple of years and come back with something else featuring the Ninth Doctor.” It wouldn’t surprise me if they know what they are going to do, but want to wait a while before recording/confirming it.

I’m thinking a just 3/4 disc box sets once or twice a year, or they are trying to figure out how to have solo Doctor stories, without having a recurring companion.

If this is the end its ending on a high. I’m not a big fan of River meeting all the Doctors & other elements of the Whoniverse, it all seems rather gimmicky, but this is really enjoyable. Swipe Right is a fun if rather belated dating app based story, & also deals with a certain group in society that are not well represented. Face of the Apocalypse is again focused on relationships but in a different way. But it is Archipelago that steals the show, its written by Tim Foley, what else do you need to know? The focus here on 9 & River is so well written. A really interesting & unique take, it feels like it has a point rather than just sticking characters together as Big Finish often does. The setting is also very atmopsheric & its such an emotional & character led tale.

I plan on listening to this tonight if I can stay up long enough, if not will be on my list for tomorrow.

I pre-ordered this so it arrived on my phone this morning and I wanted to rush to listen to it (River!!) but instead spent my time working on the website adding hundreds more stories for you to rate and review.

I’m not sure when I’ll get time to listen to it now.

Basically: poor me, please send sympathy haha

I don’t know why this only occurred to me now, but I think Big Finish missed a trick with these Ninth Doctor sets in not including a next time trailer over the closing credits. Having been watching both Ninth Doctor episodes and the new Ncuti episodes, it feels weird hearing the closing theme and not hearing the trailer.

I finished Star-Crossed yesterday and I was floored by how good it was - I have been disappointed by most of the recent 9DA boxsets but the first and final story of Star-Crossed truly were excellent

We actually already have a thread for this. Feel free to hop over there and see what we’ve all been saying.

I listened to Below There today. Thought it was quite enjoyable though nothing amazing. Fairly certain I have the mental focus to listen to the remainder of series 3 over the next couple of weeks and be caught up. Really excited to get to the River and Benny stories

I think I’m gonna do a relisten & ranking over the coming weeks.

Can someone spoil for me what the LGBT aspect of Archipelago is (and, as a second question, what makes it a favorite both on here and on Eccleston’s personal ranking)? I haven’t listened to it.

Spoilers!!

It’s a very intimate story where River and Nine basically get old together and share an entire lifetime. They’re helping a man find his husband, and also Nine is incredibly aromantic in the whole boxset and called as much, but it resonated with me as an aro a lot because it showed a kind of intimacy and closeness that a relationship can be without being explicity romantic. It works because River and Nine come to understand each other so well and love each other deeply in their own way, and the Doctor reads River’s diary (gets erased after obvs) so they have this kind of very open, very honest relationship which is a really interesting angle for both characters
