I just dug through my pdfs to find it. One of my favourite Doctor Who moments!
NYSSA: He took my hands and he kissed my forehead. Then he started to walk forward towards the white figure. He turned back once and looked around, and somehow he found where all of us were looking at him.
DOCTOR: Thank you, all of you. Goodbye.
NYSSA: …He said. And then he started to run with determination, without a hint of reluctance, because he still had things to do. He had someone to save back in the real world. He had a whole other self that he had to be to do that. He ran right into the white figure of the Watcher and he fell, fell into the figure, spiralling down until he was lost in the distance. I suppose if I never meet him again and grow old myself, I’ll have to say that was the last time I saw him, in a dream. But without evidence, I’ll say to people that I know he’s still alive, somewhere out there. I’ll know he’s still travelling. I’ll know that he’s still having adventures. I’ll know he always will be.
I love that it balances both! I love that the Doctor Who universe is wonderful, and also terrible. Because life is terrible, and also wonderful. I love it.
Okay, to answer seriously, I think it is very good, but maybe not the best thing ever. I still preferred Genesis of the Cybermen, for instance, but Hooklight is great because of its worldbuilding and atmosphere. I can’t say a lot without spoiling. Also, it’s only the first half so it’s difficult to say for sure when we only have half of the story.
The issue with the hype around the big reveal is there wasn’t really any going into it, so it blew us away. But listening like Shauny has, a little bit after; when there’s been so much hype, I can totally get it being disappointing!
The thing is that I would go in with very little hype. I am not that big of a Fifth Doctor fan, and I think that Adric is the most boring companion of all time (The only interesting thing he did was to die). But I am still interested since there is a lot of talk about it.
I would say Genesis of the Cybermen, Five Hundred Ways to Leave Your Lover (from Classic Doctors, New Monsters) or The Miracle of Pendour Cove (from Zygon Century).
