Big Finish General Discussion

May’s release schedule is insanely packed as well with exciting stuff. Honestly this year just… BF are on a roll right now. June looks to be a quiet one for me though lol.

It works for the recurring releases but I think an anniversary range should go faster. It feels less commemorative if it lasts four years. But hey, at least it isn’t the disaster we call Once and Future.

For me the special releases are interesting at least. Not necessarily stuff I would ask for, but unique. The ongoing ranges are in a rougher state, kinda. Haven’t been keeping up with One and Two but at least it’s two different, unexpected, eras. I really like both the 3DAs and the 4DAs as they exist. Five is current the best for me. The Great Beyond was tiresome, but it is one of the few releases of the last handful of years of Five I disliked. 6DAs are a mixed bag, 7DAs were directionless (and The Last Day did not land). 8DAs need a soft reboot.

I love the current idea behind the War Doctor. Not as enamored by the 8th Doctor Time War, if only because I still think Cass is inherently a bad idea.

Yeah, monthly or bi-monthly would’ve worked better for me. Also I think part of the problem with O&F and Dark Gallifrey, is by doing them individually and marketing them as “Pick up whatever you want, you dont need to get them all!” just means there’s way less of an arc going on, at least that’s how it seems to me.

Then again, Legacy of Time I’ve got one episode left, and it was sold as a boxset so I expected more of an arc and have had… next to nothing!

Agree on the Doctor ranges. I’m behind on 3, 6 and 7’s boxset era stuff. 2 I’m up-to-date and enjoying despite some issues. 8DA’s really badly need some kind of sorting out.

I don’t think there is enough weeks in the year for that to happen, but if it wasn’t for that I would wish all the Doctor ranges to go bimonthly. I’m hopeful for 9 and 13. I enjoyed the previous 9DAs more than most (even though I admit they are mostly average to good, rarely great), soooo. And there is absolutely no indication of that, but I’m hoping the creative team behind season 7v gets involved with 13.

Hmm, I’m not sure tbh. On one hand, I’ve really enjoyed Benny last year going to the bi-monthly approach, but I do love binging a boxset in one go. The S7V team are for sure gonna be getting snapped up for stuff surely!!! I’d love that.

April’s not as interesting to me as March.

Hooklight might be interesting, but Krynoid and Dark Gallifrey are my main interests. Companion Chronicles and Short Trips could also be something.

Then again, OCAS sounded very good from the description…

Not sure if it’s been posted, but I saw something on Reddit that is interesting if true.

Apparently, Matthew Waterhouse mentioned at an Australian convention that Tom Baker has finished recording for them and has retired.

We should still have plenty of stuff from him as this is the recording dates for the release coming in JUNE '25;

Recorded on: 14 January 2019, 8 December 2020, 2 and 18 March 2021, 28 May 2021

Also, Colin Baker has the following recorded dates for the release coming in MAY '25;

Recorded on: 8, 14 and 18 October 2021

Anyone else really excited that K9 is back in his own audio series?

No idea why they’ve named it after two of the supporting characters though…

Yeah they’re really burying the lede here. It shoud’ve been called something like … I don’t know … “K9 and Company”?

I hope so but if it did it probably won’t happen for a few years

Unlikely Groff is high in the Demand, but then again who knows? It won’t happen for quite a while either way, even if it does happen.

(Also Questions like that are better suited for the Big Finish Discussion Thread rather than this one!)

Here, just moved it over for you!

Didn’t it take like 8 years for BF to get the rights to the majority of NuWho?

I’d imagine it’s the same with the latest era.

The most important thing is that the current era has to be over. It didn’t take them long to get the rights for the Chibnall era, for instance. But they can’t do anything while the era is ongoing, and then it usually takes a bit (a couple of years) after the era has ended before they get the rights.
