Big Finish General Discussion

Gallifrey, Counter Measures and Bernice Summerfield are my top three i’d say, although The Omega Factor and UNIT: Brave New World are definitely up there too

Torchwood The Story Continues, 8th Doctor Adventures and Gallifrey!

Do I need to say it…

Gallifrey, CM, and then idk for third if I’m honest. Maybr BNW. Maybe 8DAs. Maybe Omega Factor. There’s a lot of good stuff

I’d say the 11th Doctor Chronicles (too early to tell if 11DA will surpass it), Gallifrey and CM.

Hmm…

The Fourth Doctor Adventures. I stumbled upon quite a lot of hidden gems there.

Gallifrey. No need to explain, but still - tense political thriller with great parallels to us, humanity.

War Doctor Rises. So far it has been giving me exactly what I wanted the War Doctor stories to do.

8DAs, The War Master, The New Adventures Of Benny, I think. But close runner-ups in The Robots, the 11/Valaries, and right now the 9/Rose adventures are the ones I really look forward to.

I haven’t heard Gallifrey or Counter Measures in any capacity. So most people’s top picks are not applicable for me.

  1. War Master: The consistent quality in this range is awesome but it wouldn’t be as loved without the excellent take on The Master by Derek Jacobi. My favorite incarnation who i’ll never tire of watching him scheme and plot.
  2. New Adventures of Bernice Summerfield: The sets with the Unbound Doctor in particular. David Warner and Lisa Bowerman’s rapport is excellent and their banter makes even the most boring story enjoyable. Fortunately their stories are usually excellent with Blood and Steel being one of my favorite boxsets ever
  3. Eleventh Doctor Chronicles: 11 was my favorite doctor for some time and these stories are genuinely amazing. Some consistent and excellent quality here.

Honorable mention to 7th Doctor range only reason it wasn’t in here is because his monthly adventures don’t count in this and his sets are relatively new and unambitious compared to say 5. He is my favorite Doctor though and with Past Forward and Fixers the range may well be my favorite eventually if they continue on that route.

Gallifrey, War Master… than not sure I have a 3rd standout. Lots of ranges have sections that are great like 11 and Valerie, but like she show it’ll waver sometimes. The 9DAs have an amazing track racord vut given there are only 7 of them that feels like cheating

Only 7 of them? Of the 9/Rose stories, do you mean? Cause overall they’re starting the equivalent of their 15th box set with Dark Tides!

I think the fact I forgot the dozzen odd stories before 9/Rose proves my point about most ranges having peaks within them, but not being peak in their entirely.

I don’t think the question was necessarily “which ranges are 100% solid gold,” there are episodes of all three of my favorites that I don’t like! I guess for me I would still prefer to listen to a bad War Master than almost anything else, or a less good story that still features Benny/Unbound talking to each other, or, y’know, the end of Stranded because Liv and Helen are at least still characters in it lol. DW is never 100% perfect across a run or range or series (though I would say the 11/Vals get awfully close), that’s just built in to the anthology nature, I kind of love that jeopardy!

Its not that the other ranges are bad, hech neither Gallifrey or War Master are perfect. Its just that off the top of my head no other range clearly stands abive the rest like they do. Bug Finish just has a pretty consistent quality

That last sentence really is true, it’s wild to me just how good how much of BF’s output is, considering how much they release! Quality control is really high.

I agree they just have a pretty consistent high quality. The weaker ranges are rare

Random Big Finish general note, but I only just noticed that Patrons can switch their view to alt covers where available, and I just wanted to say I love this feature! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Eighth Doctor Adventures, Third Doctor Adventures, and War Master

Ooh a toughie there. Tougher still to avoid a theme but I feel these are my picks (even if I think one of those ranges made a massive misstep with its last series). I’d say Torchwood Soho, Torchwood Monthly Range, and Torchwood: The Story Continues.

The Fifth Doctor Adventures, Series 7V, and The War Master

Main Range, Jago and Litefoot, and I dunno, maybe I, Davros?

Countermeasures, 11 & Valarie and Survivors (and/or Gallifrey)..

..oh shit and Bernice Summerfield. Actually put that in third… oh erm… this is too hard!

I, Davros - dammit.

Too much choice.
