I thought about voting for the gasmask-zombies. Then I considered that they were really just nanites trying to heal people based on insufficient data.

I love the two episodes and the idea of there actually not being a monster / villain. However, since the question is about the best monster/villain, I chose the individuals “lone Dalek” and “Margaret,” even though the episode featuring the latter isn’t nearly as brilliant as “The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances.”

Voted for the Lone Dalek and the Satellite 5 Robots

‘Dalek’ is the first time I met the Daleks and remains one of the most effective. The lone Dalek is so menacing. Future episodes have tried to recapture this (normally by adding more Daleks) but it hasn’t had the same effect.

Anne-Droid and the T&S robots are a completely different vibe. Pure camp fun! Both scenes are really funny. With Doctor Who’s efforts to court an American audience it doesn’t feel like these kind of characters would be possible anymore.

I argue the Gas Mask Zombies aren’t a villain or really a monster. They were just an accident due to an oversight in the nanogenes’ programming. Which I see was pointed out, so I’ll say I agree.

Although I love Father’s Day the Reapers aren’t the best villains of the season.

Also, credit for typing out all of that for the Jagrafess

The Lone Dalek is the first slasher-movie villain in Doctor Who and is an astonishing take on them. The moment where it electrocutes a dozen armed security to death using the sprinkler system is a fittingly efficient way of demonstrating what efficient killers the Daleks are.

The Reapers are the best Doctor Who villain that just got completely forgotten because conceptually they just break the world a little bit, but they’re a classic Cornell monster and I love them for that.

Thanks!

Is it sad that it was all from memory as well?

It may have made me have to do a different question for my The Long Game quiz questions.

Best: The Lone Dalek.
It’s Dalek by Shearman, do I even need to say more about it?
Best (new Monster/Villain): Margaret/Blon Fel-Fotch: Her Actress gives an excellent Performance in Boom Town, which is so much better than most people give it credit for.
That said… while I hate the unfunny fart jokes, the Slitheen are great in Concept and Design, I am surprised that they didn’t establish themselves a Monster that could return plenty of time. (Can somebody explain to me how they have more Stories in SJA than they have in televised Doctor Who?)
