Beginner's Guide to Doctor Who on Big Finish

I mentioned this during my introduction post, and a lot of people showed interest, so I figured I’d share my progress so far. Basically, I wanted to make a Guide to help ease newcomers into the Big Finish range, as I personally was a bit intimidated by just how much is available when I started out. It will focus on getting the most value out of the range, both the time it takes to get through each story and the price point; as someone who has been bingeing these stories over the past year, I recognise how expensive it can get so I wanted to help prevent buyer’s remorse where possible, as even free time is a precious commodity.

Part 1 looks at everything that is available on streaming (Main Range, spin-offs, etc.), giving some general recommendations and grouping story arcs together for convenience. All individual links are included across each streaming service (Spotify, Apple, Amazon, TIDAL, Soundcloud), because some of these entries are in odd places and it took myself a bit of digging to find them all.

Future instalments will cover what is available on BBC Sounds, Audible, and on the Big Finish website; I already have the next two instalments written up, just waiting for the right time to post them.

This is the first time I’ve attempted something like this, so any and all feedback and suggestions for this instalment and the Guide going forward is welcome and appreciated.

Took a quick read through it (will dive into it more thoroughly when I have time later) and I love how you have it all laid out. And the depth at which you go over each story, enough to give a general idea what I’m getting into without spoiling anything. Also, so glad you included the links to stream each one as it was brought up; makes it easy to click over and save any that sound interesting enough to try. Thank you for sharing this!

If you haven’t already, make sure to put in big letters “do not start with Zagreus”

Yes. I’d say Scherzo is much better /j

I mentioned Zagreus in Part 1, but specifically pointed out how weird it is to highlight it in a “Beginner’s Guide”, as it is beyond unfriendly to beginners. I imagine even most superfans would struggle with it. Agreed, Scherzo is better and kind of essential in its own way as a look at the Doctor/Companion relationship throughout the franchise.
