I’d say go for Deep Blue, it’s a novel with Five, Tegan and Turlough right after Warriors of the Deep where they meet the Brigadier, Yates and Benton. Yates gets a lot of focus on this one as it’s set after The Green Death. I will warn you that this book is very violent and graphic with its description but it’s a great horror story with obvious Lovecraft inspiration and genuine stakes. It also kinda explains Five’s slight costume change during Season 21
Are you going through them in Doctor order cause all of the ones you’ve listed are 1-4
I am indeed. Part of a larger adventure through all the EU in chronological order.
Read ‘The Witch Hunters’ and I really enjoyed myself with this one, then again it had a lot for it going, so I am not surprised. Some lovely banter between our TARDIS Team at the Beginning, great use of them all, ESPECIALLY Susan & Ian. And of course a great Use of its historical setting. We are two for two in enjoyment for the 1st doctor PDAs! ![]()
@JohnnyRockets really enjoyed this one too.
A Waterstones I frequent has like mostly PDAs and VMA reprints, they’re most of the Who section, it’s weird. And it’s in the tourist-y part so like imagine tourists going there and getting them…
They outnumber the NSAs there, and outnumber the Targets now (got Human Nature and TV Movie so they totally do unless they restocked)
And the audio stuff is like BBC Books stuff, full casts or Paul Magrs (it’s mostly Paul Magrs, they have stories that I have not seen on the Wiki and there’s more Iris than Doctors. They had the Tom Baker stuff too I think)
Anyway, all this to say, should I have gotten Ten Little Aliens instead of Human Nature?
I assume the ones that were part of the 50th Anniversary, Monsters, and History reprint collections?
Yeah.
I got a History Collection reprint of Human Nature, so should have mentioned VNAs too but they only had the one copy of Human Nature.
My Quest to finish all of 1 is going well, finished reading ‘Bunkers soldiers’ yesterday and with that I am officially close to finishing the Character of Dodo
(2 more books and an Audio to go)
As for the PDA itself, I liked it, it’s by no means a favorite of the Range, but it’s pretty solid really, maybe the weakest first Doctor PDA I read, but I still do give it a 3.5 I think? Really I don’t think I have much to say about it, outside of it being a good Book!
Read City at World’s end today! Really enjoyed this one, so far 1 has been proving himself to have a pretty solid track record in books! This one in particular was a fun one, the original team is well-characterized and quite like what this book does with Susan. Bulis is 2/2 for the 1st Doctor Books!!
On another note read ‘Deadly reunion’ yesterday and that one just a bit forgettable to me, it has its moments and some nice ideas, but nothing too memorable really.
City at World’s End is brilliant.
I am also hugely in awe of the fact you can read a book in a day!
Me tooooo
I’ve done it once or twice[1] but most of the time I can’t find the focus
with oh no it isn’t and beyond the sun ↩︎
Thank you! You’re too kind! I don’t recommend it, since I do feel quite exhausted by it hah!
Oh, don’t worry, I believe you can do it again (although not sure if I recommend it!)!! ![]()
Superior Beings now has a rating. It was pretty good.
Ohh what did you rate it yourself? ![]()
I was wavering between a 3.5 and a 4, but I gave it a four.
So I’ve read ‘Byzantium!’ due my quest of finishing every first Doctor Story and while I had a lot of Praise left for the previous 4 One PDAs I read, this one sadly does not come even close to those. A bit of a mess and the Characterization is also quite off, sadly, good Characterization can help me with weaker Prose Outings. While it connects in an interesting way to The Romans, at the end it doesn’t quite deliver on way or another.
While I don’t hate it, I must admit I feel rather disappointed as big Fan of Pure Historicals and be so surprised by the very solid track record of the previous PDAs, which I read.
Oh, well hopefully this will stay my least favorite 1st Doctor PDA!
@JohnnyRockets is currently reading that too. You guys will have to compare notes.
Funny you mention it, I mainly started reading it after hearing the less positive words about it over at that thread, thought I might as well get over with it, as I’d like to hopefully end my 1 Journey with some highs. Looking forward to what he thinks of the story himself!
Has anyone here read “Bullet Time” with Seventh Doctor and Sarah Jane? I got it for a very good price, and I was curious about what you think
