Did this one a couple weeks back absolutely incredible. It’s really interesting how they decided to jump forward in the timeline. Love a sequel so I’m glad we got one for one of the best 6/Evelyn stories.

Is it controversial to say I liked Thicker Than Water more than Arrangements For War? This one is more emotional and intriguing in my opinion

I don’t know if it’s controversial, but I also liked this better than Arrangements. And I remember being confused when I listened to the next Sixie story, because I thought this was Evelyn’s exit.

I don’t like even nearly as much as Arrangements but this is still an excellent character piece.

It misses out on some of the subtleties and characters that made its predecessor so good but Thicker Than Water is still pretty damn solid.

Also, this should have been Evelyn’s final ever story.

Absolutely adored this one when I listened back in October. Thought it was a masterpiece and cried at the ending. Stellar character piece

I loved this one! It brought a tear to my eye at the end conversation between Evelyn and the Doctor, which as I listen whilst out running made it slightly awkward  I guess anyone who saw me thought I’d been pushing myself too hard running!
A really lovely character driven story, although the plot was weaker than Arrangements for War, I’d still rate this one 5/5.

Thicker Than Water is a masterclass in companion closure—a politically charged thriller that balances ideology, emotion, and interpersonal conflict with elegant writing and deeply committed performances. Maggie Stables and Colin Baker shine as Evelyn and the Doctor, offering one of Big Finish’s most affecting goodbyes. Despite a few pacing stumbles in the middle and some underuse of Mel, this is a fitting and beautiful farewell to one of the audio era’s most beloved characters.

Here’s my spoilery review for those of you who fancy a read. Thank you!

It’s not perfect but I do not care. Everyone is firing on all cylinders, the characterization is fantastic, everyone has something to do. The one downside is that Six and Evelyn don’t really have all that much time together (to the point that I kind of wish that Six was the one who was kidnapped with Evelyn instead of Mel) and that the political intrigue Killoran experimentation plot, good as it is, feels like it comes a little bit out of nowhere and isn’t really motivated by anything other than the villain being evil.

The Hex reveal is one of my favorite Seventh Doctor scenes ever though. What a fantastic, beautiful performance by Maggie Stables and Sylvester McCoy. I do wish it gets followed up on in the Hex stories with his relationship with the Doctor. There was something of a missed opportunity of the normally manipulative and chessmastery Seven being extremely protective of Hex to make up for Cassie and to keep his promise to Evelyn. But, alas, a missed opportunity still doesn’t ruin one of the best long running arcs in the entire metaseries.
