Audio Club: The Sirens of Time

Agreed. I don’t get the hate that gets thrown at it.

Listened to episode one! This is my first Big Finish audio drama, so was very excited for this one! I have tried listening to it before, but this time I was able to feel immersed in it better.

I took notes!

The Sirens of Time: Episode One

•Let’s see how I fare with audio drama!
•OK, we’re on Gallifrey, I think
•So, I’m a bit confused…
•This is the third time I’ve tried listening to Sirens of Time, and audio drama in general, but this time I’m actually paying better attention, and enjoying it more! This is fun!
•Apparently this fits in between Greatest Show in the Galaxy, and Battlefield. So, where’s Ace? Does that get explained somewhere else?
•No clue what kind of landscape the Doctor is on…
•Can’t take the witch-like character seriously…
•Ok, these accents are annoying me.
•For the first time, I can picture scenes in my head! I think I’m starting to get into Big Finish!
•I don’t like these Ruthley and Sancroff scenes.
•There’s a voice that’s so distorted I can hardly understand what they’re saying. :frowning:
•And now we have another voice with a hilarious filter!
•My ears! The sound design on this is a bit… odd.

Overall, while not the best episode, I am excited for more!

(I think I’m getting properly into Big Finish!)

I thought it was supposed to be later between Survival and the TV Movie.

Oh, I read on eyespider that it was set between Greatest Show and Battlefield, but the Wiki doesn’t…

Aaah, yes, the early Big Finish dialogue writing and sound design can be a bit clunky, but you’ll notice them improving as time goes by and you listen to more audios!

The Sirens of Time Redux should be out this week, and it’s also supposedly a remixed version of this story.

That’s part 2 done!

My Notes

•Not sure how I feel about using the original theme, considering this audio only features Five, Six, and Seven.
•This is a massive shift in time and story from Part One! Not that I’m complaining though.
•I’m picturing the tear in time as the crack in time from Series 5.
•I’m loving Five’s interactions between other characters!
•Helen is a great character!
•I prefer this to Part One.

So, while the story is average, I’m really enjoying the audio drama format, so it looks that Big Finish is something I’m going to start collecting!

Also, Six next! :star_struck:

This continues up until Bang-Bang-a-Boom, MR #39. It is a bit of an odd choice, to be sure, although I find it gives the early BF audios a bit of a unique atmosphere.

Adding to what @taraoftraken wrote, the only exception is the 8th Doctor, who gets a theme of his own from the very start.

Notes from Part Three

•My attention drifted away for a little bit, but was regained by the line “I’d trust you to fly me stark-naked through a cheese grater”!
•The sound design is nicer in this one.
•At precisely 1 hour, 9 minutes, and 29 seconds in, what sounds like a fart can be heard!

(I’m sorry)
•Love Colin in this one!
•This is a fun story, but sadly there’s a lot of sci-fi babble, which makes it a bit confusing.
•But the ending seems to be a lead into the final part!

Finished it!

Notes from Part Four

•It’s all coming together now!
•A lot of flashbacks, which is helpful and annoying.
•Though the Doctors’ interactions are very fun, the story in this part isn’t very interesting or, well, good.
•So,I don’t know what’s happening anymore.
•It’s getting really confusing.
•My attention (and enjoyment) is waning…
•A disappointing conclusion. :disappointed:
•Can someone explain what happened in this episode?

Overall, the story isn’t the best, but I think I’m up for more Big Finish now!

I summarized it back in February:

@DontBlink, just happened to look at the “Backstage” tab on Redux, and it specifies “before the 1996 Doctor Who TV Movie” for McCoy’s chronological placement.

I hadn’t realised that but you’re right - I’ve always assumed this was placed, for the 7th Doctor sometime before the TV Movie. At the end of the day it doesn’t really matter.

Well that’s the best outcome we could have hoped for.

Me, I’m always going to be a fan of this for reasons of personal nostalgia (I won’t bring out the photo again - you’ve all seen it far too many times now).

But what if we want to see the photo again?

What photo? I want to see it!

Yay I’m glad this story didn’t scare you off. It’s honestly not one of the good ones I don’t think.

Some of them are absolutely brilliant though!
