This is the sort of story that has strong production values and a good cast and atmosphere, but that I still somehow struggled to connect with. Maybe I wasn’t in the right mood. This was also my introduction to Hex, and I liked him instantly.

The Harvest is a gripping and atmospheric thriller, blending medical horror with the ever-looming menace of the Cybermen. It takes its time building tension, keeping the monsters in the shadows for as long as possible before hitting hard in the final act. The Cyberhumans offer an intriguing new variation on the classic foes, while Hex’s introduction is handled with care, giving him a compelling personal arc.

With a strong sense of mystery, an unsettlingly realistic setting, and a confident debut for its new companion, The Harvest is a standout entry in the Seventh Doctor’s audio adventures.

Hex!! <3333 I think this one gets more devastating when you get later into his arc, I revisited it last year when I was getting to the end of his stories because I couldn’t remember what happened, and I really enjoyed it. I like how dark this one is

Hex!

A clever use of the Cybermen!

Sophie Aldred being excellent as Ace!

Loved this story and really need to give it a relisten. Might be a good one to do after I’ve finished listening to Genesis of the Cybermen but we’ll see (too much to listen to!!)

I adore this story. It’s incredible. A beautiful intro to Hex, a really creative Cyberman story, and some spectacular almost bone chilling performances.

I really had a great Time with The Harvest. It has almost everything I could have asked for an Introduction/Cybermen Story and is just a really brilliant Story all around.

If I had a Nickel for everytime “Oh my God” was said…

Introduces my favourite sweet summer child Hex but is, other than that, a bit of a bore.

I like the fast-paced, techno style and I think all the characterisation is on point but its a derivative story with some fun ideas it makes no efforts to explore.

Great soundtrack from David Darlington though

Really enjoyed this introducing to a new companion (I’ve heard him before, maybe just in one story but its great to go back to the start!). Really solid Cyberman story, but the ending was a little rushed IMO. 4/5.

I loved this story from start to finish (I may have listened to this trilogy out of order) but this story as an introduction to a new companion is such a strange but cool story with this being my first Hex story ever he was great and cant wait to listen to more. The way they handle the cybermen I feel is well done. The music also being great 10/10

I always get a kick out of the fact that Dan Abnett, who I mainly recognise as the writer responsible for the Guardians Of The Galaxy line-up that appeared in the MCU films (along with his and Andy Lanning’s exemplary work on Cosmic Marvel in general), has written for Doctor Who.

Solid introduction for Hex, and I like it when the medical body horror side of the Cybermen is the main focus. I personally prefer Gathering and Reaping, but this is still pretty good.

Love that story and how it experiments with my absolute favourite Doctor Who monsters

I enjoy the Harvest quite a bit. It’s certainly a great introduction to Hex. What an awful day he has in this one!

I wrote up my thoughts on this story on tumblr at the start of my 7/Ace/Hex relisten (the relisten that was supposed to last me three months, over a year ago, and still isn’t finished…)

This has a really great start, I really enjoyed Ace working undercover by herself, she was really good, and I instantly liked Hex.

I thought the Cybermen story was done quite well, a little different to what I’ve heard before, but ultimately at the end it was a lot of running around screaming.

So I gave it 3.5/5, a decent first story for a new companion!
