The Seventh Doctor’s fallow run at BF continues. I couldn’t tell you much about this release other than that the Dar Traders are cool—love their creaky voices!—I loved the joke about dying to elevator music, and the regal re-theming for “Spider’s Shadow” is clever and beautiful.
One last iffy release in “Kingdom of Silver” and “Keepsake”, and things will be wonderful once again…

Okay I really enjoyed this one. The Death Collectors is a super atmospheric zombie base under siege with some really cool concepts. Spider’s Shadow is a really fun mystery with a very cool take on a time loop. Not a perfect release by any means but quite good.

Oh, I just listened to these two yesterday! …and they went in one ear right through the other. Very forgettable. Someone save 7 from this accursed solo run.

Two stories, both mediocre for different reasons.
The Death Collectors, like Sheargold’s last story, is creepy and cool but with a convoluted and underwhelming plot.
And Spider’s Shadow is typical Briggsy fair, great idea with a rough execution

Three parts is just an awkward length it would seem, where an idea will either be too short or too long for the runtime, whilst the accompanying one-parter will end up feeling wholly ineffectual.
I actually think this format suits Seven well, given that his later TV episodes were three-parters.

I absolutely love The Death Collectors, as a late Seventh Doctor story I think it really works, a great meditation on mortality and the attempts we go to to avoid it. Atmospherically I think that it works really well, and the inclusion of Madame Butterfly really enjoyable. It goes down as one of my favourite audios, and the Dar Traders are a really creepy monster that in a sense remind me a bit of the Ood, they certainly have similar roles.
Spider’s Shadow on the other hand is nothing special in my opinion. It’s fine, an interesting time loop story but does get a bit repetitive and even at thirty minutes it feels a bit too long for what it is. Still, the relationship between Louise and Alison does feel really genuine and the Doctor’s attempt to see them reconcile really heartening. Overall though it’s still fairly mediocre, not bad but not great either.

Death Collectors starts really well but totally lost me by the end. Interesting concept, but just didn’t really do much for me. Found Spider’s Shadow to be just too much packed into a short 1 parter.
