Audio Club: Project: Twilight

I feel seen. This is a truly reaffirming comment. My controversial opinions are very thankful.

Just listened to Part 1. This is one of my favorite stories and I’m not entirely sure why. I don’t like horror, or super excessively violent or gory films, and I have no interest in vampires. And yet, I love this story. Part of it might be down to the performances. Colin and Maggie are in top form, especially Colin. Reggie is just so much fun, Amelia is delightfully sinister and Cassie is excellent as a single mom struggling to make ends meet for her toddler. And we haven’t even really met Nimrod yet.

I adored “No Man’s Land”. It’s a grim and unrelenting story, but I love the fact that DW can turn out stories like “Project Twilight”, “Project Lazarus” and “No Man’s Land” at the same time as stories like “Delta and the Bannermen”, “City of Death” and “Rogue”. This show is just so very varied and I love the very bones of it!

So I finished this the same day that I started but life got in the way of commenting about it. I really do love this story. Yes, it’s very dark and has vampires, and normally that’s very much not my thing. But this just works so well. I wouldn’t want Doctor Who to this for every story, but every once in a while, maybe. I do think that the performances are what really do it for me. Colin especially is firing on all cylinders, and Nimrod is so chilling as a villain. Reggie is over the top, but in a good way, and Amelia is almost underplayed in her manipulations. This is definitely a five star rating for me.

Listened to this on a drive today with my eldest because they’re currently fascinated by the whole concept of the Forge and how they interrelate with UNIT, Countermeasures (they’ve been listening to Series 1), UNIT and C19.

I really enjoyed it. It’s very visceral and somehow felt very Season 22. I liked Reggie and Amelia and now recognise Rosie Caveliero’s voice as Cassie - she does a good job in a tricky role.

Colin and Maggie Stables are sublime together. Think this can have a 4/5 from me.

I really enjoyed this one. Great world building, acting and score. Can’t wait to hear more in the saga.

Evelyn is still a joy.

4/5 (8/10)

EDIT: reading through these comments makes me think that we have listened to different audios.

That is how I feel a lot of times when people are writing about the Ten and Rose episodes in the TV club :joy:

Really surprised by this, as a couple of people on the forum warned me they didn’t like this. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I’m intrigued by the arc it has begun to set up. Part of me would rather skip ahead and do the arc, as my memory is awful, but I’ll stick at going in order.

That’s because Project: Twligiht is good actually <3 I’m glad you enjoyed it! Unfortunately the Forge storyline kind of comes and goes and weaves through the MR easily until Gods and Monsters. Yay! We love it when it’s easy to follow! :grimacing: The implications of this and the other actual Forge audios will ripple through other stuff so I would say it is worthwhile continuing on in order, and fortunately the wiki page is quite detailed if you need a reminder

Yeah I really was pleasantly surprised! I’m loving finally getting to experience more of Evelyn that’s for sure. I love learning about a Whoniverse organisation to add to my roster as I did recently with PROBE. Honestly surprised I’ve managed to do this many MR stories back to back!!

When you hit a good streak, they do get a bit moreish. Unfortunately that streak is always ruined by a shit one eventually :sob:

I’m hoping I can eventually catch up to the audio club! That’d be perfect. I’ve got these 18 left till I’ve done the first 50! Thankfully I did all the 8 ones years ago so its lessened my requirement to catch up.

In my opinion, highlights in there are The One Doctor, The Rapture, and the Pirates, Jubilee. And honestly there aren’t even that many that I’d say I don’t like, though I don’t want to share negativity in advance to put you off

Yeah, that’s a really good streak imo! There are a few not great ones in there – Nekromanteia is >:( – but also some of my personal all-time favourites, like DW and the Pirates and Creatures of Beauty. And a lot of the others are a ton of fun!

Honestly I’ve wanted to tackle the beast that is the MR for years now, so it’s nice to finally go through more of them! I’ve been into BF for 10 years this year and I’ve just left it because its super daunting.

I did the 8 ones in one go during the first lockdown, and before that I had only ever done less than 10 (a bunch of random ones like some early some late). But I’ve done lots in the last sort of 6 months or so, even more in the last week where I’m finally getting into the rhythm of doing more.

As I say, there are ups and downs with it all. 100-150 was my favourite stretch. I’m on something like 260 now (:sob:) and you’re right, it’s been a task and a half getting through them. But worth it, I think. For all the dull and stupid ones, there are many many highlights and I’m going to be sad when I reach the end

Honestly its just super exciting to go through them. I fully expect I’ll probably pause at some point in the immediate future but still, I’ve heard great things about some and there’s lots of companions I’ve yet to fully experience!!

I am sorry, but even my Love for Vampires couldn’t make me adore it, more the Opposite, I really did not like this one. I can totally see why people would like it, that said for me it feels like some of the worst Traits of the Wilderness Years combined. Not a very pleasant Listen, I am afraid.

Davros, Master and especially Jubilee are definitely ones to look out for, alone with Colditz, …ish, The Church and the Crown and Creatures of Beauty

God, I forget how good the latter half of 1-50 is sometimes.
