Great story. Excellent comedy. I laughed more often than with The One Doctor. Is this that ‘panto’ everyone’s been raving about?
By far not as horrible as Twilight imo, simply because some of its concepts are way more entertaining, but still, damn (look i used the writers their favorite word), so stupid. I’m not even sure how they do it. Oh, the entire base is controlled by bad guy’s voice. Guess what? This character just happens to be able to do a perfect imitation of the bad guy’s voice! Genius! See it has a setup, because the voice thing is mentioned, and then it’s used! Chekhov’s gun! Writing 101. How clever. Take a shot every time they pull this shit. They do it twice for the same thing even. Bad guy has a destroy everything mode that he mentions at the start, how nice of him to have that. How smartly set up it’s- like- and then they come together it’s two things and they together isthe solution !!
Of course, we can’t keep being clever. We gotta be subversive too, for example: not doing that, and just doing things because. Narrative buildup is for nerds don’t you know? Here at Project Lazarus we do cool and badass things like killing character because we need to for our very very emotional scene™. It’s very very emotional™. The characters get angry™ and sad™ and conveniently for us don’t want to talk to each other so we don’t need to use emotional intelligence to even explain how or why our case here is so special. They are feeling such emotions™. I’m going to jump off a bridge.
The clone Doctor is kinda fun, but they just had to go into some really stupid melodramatics again hadn’t they? The Doctor cloning farm is just the human farm from Twilight again and serves the exact same purpose of only to shock and nothing else. And then, awww, baby’s first existentialism too! We’re not using the unoriginal idea for anything though. It’s just shock value again. And a reason to let Colin Baker be very angry I guess. You could’ve at least drawn a parallel to a brain living on in a different body and regeneration. Even I could come up with that in a second, and it would’ve at least had the slightest bit of meaning. Unrelated: now that I’m writing in spoiler zone I can mention Evelyn’s heart condition that she now has. Do I need to write an annoying sarcastic remark about foreshadowing? I’m tired.
Small things i unironically like are: Cassie gets to be badass for 20 or so seconds which was nice. I think it’s funny that even the characters can’t help but point out how melodramatic they are (though we can of course only point out the silly names because that’s the only part). And i do kinda like Seven shutting all the edgelords up. Even if he himself becomes one…
Look i don’t even mind the campiness of it all, like sure, do that if you want to, make a little parody, but don’t involve the Doctor in that nonsense. Let the Doctor and companion be a fish out of water. Let them act their usual selves and make that tone clash with the edgyness. Just don’t make them part of the edgy cast. It’s like if Matt Smith completely unironically started spitting cowboy one liners during A Town Called Mercy. It makes for a ridiculous bunch of stories that feel completely out of place to me in relation to the rest of the Main Range. Yay for diversity though i guess.
I don’t really know what to say, because it all feels so the same. It’s the same sludge of idiotic attempts that read like a teenager trying to sound adult, only with a slightly more entertaining idea of the two Doctors. The plot itself is so empty that I genuinely have a hard time commenting on specifics of it, and I’m sorry, I genuinely think it’s so stupid. The more I talk about it the more I dislike it. It was easy listenable and not horribly paced I guess. Anyways my hater arc continues forth, let’s hope It’ll be the last time this year.
