This is such an excellent Story. I adore Beevers Master after this one. He did give a competent Performance in Keeper of Traken, but this is his standout performance in the Role. In general, I love how we explore the Dynamic between the Doctor and the Master in this one. The whole Plot is great and the side Character Cast does a lot here.
Also, having Seven making Deals with Death is the most seven Thing they could have ever done… did I mention I adore this one?
It’s perfection. Sheer genuine perfection. Every line, every performance, even down to the technical elements. This is one of the greatest pieces of art BF have ever released. 10/10
Absolute banger. The whole framing device of this being a story the Doctor is telling someone (as well as the reveal of that) just ties the whole thing together so well, alongside excellent performances and a really fun look at the Doctor and the Master being the same side of different coins
I love the whole Villains trilogy. They’re three of the best stories that Big Finish have ever released. But Master is the stand-out release of the three for me. Everything about this story is excellent and I’d recommend it to anyone who has heard it yet.
A superb conclusion to the trilogy. Complex, dark, thought-provoking and with altogether brilliant performances from all involved people.
10/10, no doubt about it!

The remote, stormy house and eerie sound design create a Gothic, haunted house mystery, evoking unease and suspense throughout the story.
Geoffrey Beevers excels as the decayed Master, torn between his John Smith persona and true identity, while Anne Ridler and Philip Madoc add depth to the supporting cast with nuanced and morally ambiguous portrayals.
The story explores the shared history of the Doctor and the Master, presenting the Master as a tragic figure and revealing the Doctor’s darker, manipulative side through philosophical confrontations and ethical dilemmas.
The narrative delves into betrayal, redemption, and mortality, with Death as a chilling force offering harrowing choices for both the Doctor and the Master.
The finale escalates with betrayals, moral complexities, and Death’s ultimate punishment for the Doctor, leaving the Master’s fate unresolved and the listener deeply unsettled.
it’s been years since I listened to this so it deserves a replay but I do remember liking how it takes the idea of the Doctor being Time’s Champion from the NAs and suggests that the Master is Death’s Champion.
